Phrynopus
''Phrynopus'' is a genus of frogs of the family Strabomantidae. Their common name is Andes frogs. They are endemic to Peru and inhabit the upper humid montane forest and supra-treeline grassland in the Cordillera Oriental, with one record from the Peruvian Cordillera Occidental. Taxonomy The contents and phylogenetic position of ''Phrynopus'' have long been uncertain, and many species once included in this genus have now been moved to other genera (''Bryophryne'', '' Lynchius'', ''Isodactylus'' (now '' Hypodactylus''), ''Noblella'', '' Niceforonia'', and ''Psychrophrynella''). Hedges and colleagues placed it in 2008 in the family Strabomantidae, subfamily Strabomantinae. Description ''Phrynopus'' are small to medium-sized frogs, from snout–vent length in '' Phrynopus auriculatus'' to in '' Phrynopus kauneorum''. Head is narrower than the body. Phrynopus Kauneorum
''Phrynopus kauneorum'' is a species of frogs in the family Strabomantidae. It is endemic to the Andes of Peru and known from near its type locality in the Pachitea Province, as well as from the Cordillera de Carpish, both in the Huánuco Region. The specific name ''kauneorum'' honors Andreas, Meeta, and Rebekka Kaune from Germany. Description Only females and juveniles of this species are known. Adult females measure in snout–vent length—the maximum size is very large for the genus. The head is narrow and relatively short. The snout is short and rounded. Tympanum is absent, but the supratympanic fold is distinct. The fingers and toes have no webbing nor lateral fringes; the digital tips are slightly swollen. Skin of the dorsum is smooth. Dorsal coloration is glaucous with sepia blotches and stripes; one stripe runs from the beginning of the nose and extends across the upper eyelid to the inguinal region; another one runs dorsolaterally from behind the supratympanic fold ...

''Phrynopus bracki'' is a species of frog in the family Strabomantidae. It is endemic to Peru and only known from its type locality in the Cordillera Yanachaga, Pasco Region. The specific name ''bracki'' honors Antonio Brack, agronomist and ecologist who was instrumental for the establishment of the Yanachaga–Chemillén National Park. Common name Brack's Andes frog, has been coined for it. Description Based on the type series consisting of two adult males and a single female, adult males measure about and adult females in snout–vent length. The head is short and narrower than the body. The snout is rounded to slightly truncate. The canthus rostralis is moderately sharp. There is no tympanum, and also the supra-tympanic fold is absent. The fingers and toes are not expanded; the fingers have slight lateral fringes. No webbing is present. Skin of the dorsum is tuberculate, more so in the males than in the female. The coloration is nearly uniformly black or very dark bro ...
