Photon Paint
Photon Paint is a Hold-And-Modify (HAM) based bitmap graphics editor for the Amiga, first released in 1987. Photon Paint was the first bitmap graphics editor to incorporate 3D solid modeling and texture mapping as an integral part of the program. Photon Paint was programmed by Oren Peli, Eyal Ofek, and Amir Zbeda at ''Bazbosoft'', an Israeli software house. It was published by MicroIllusions of the US and distributed all over the world. The program sold some 250,000 units and received a best of breed award from Amiga World magazine. MicroIllusions
MicroIllusions, based in Granada Hills, California was a computer game developer and publisher of the home computer era (late 1980s to early 1990s). MicroIllusions, as a company, was a strong supporter of the Amiga and typically released titles on that platform before porting it to others. Activision cancelled them as an affiliated publisher after a year of signing them up. The company went out of business in or about 1990. General The company impact has been summed up as, "During MicroIllusion’s brief existence they produced some visionary software that, like so much else that came out of the Amiga scene, gave the world an imperfect glimpse of its multimedia future. A raster graphics editor is a computer program that allows users to create and edit images interactively on the computer screen and save them in one of many raster graphics file formats (also known as bitmap images) such as JPEG, PNG, and GIF. Comparison to vector graphic editors Vector graphics editors are often contrasted with raster graphics editors, yet their capabilities complement each other. The technical difference between vector and raster editors stem from the difference between vector and raster images. Vector graphics are created mathematically, using geometric formulas. Each element is created and manipulated numerically; essentially using Cartesian coordinates for the placement of key points, and then a mathematical algorithm to connect the dots and define the colors. ''Brilliance'' is a bitmap graphics editor for the Amiga computer, published by Digital Creations in 1993. Although marketed as a single package, ''Brilliance'' in reality consisted of two separate (but near identical-looking) applications. One was a palette-based package also named ''Brilliance''. The other was a true-color package called ''TrueBrilliance''. The ''Brilliance'' package was one of the major rivals to ''Deluxe Paint'', the established "killer app" in Amiga bitmap graphics editing. At its launch, Brilliance attracted generally favorable reviews. One commonly noted point was ''TrueBrilliance'''s performance on Hold-and-Modify and true-color images, which was significantly faster than that of Deluxe Paint IV. Deluxe Paint
Deluxe Paint, often referred to as ''DPaint'', is a bitmap graphics editor created by Dan Silva for Electronic Arts and published for the then-new Amiga 1000 in November 1985. A series of updated versions followed, some of which were ported to other platforms. An MS-DOS release with support for the 256 color video graphics array, VGA standard became popular for creating pixel graphics in video games in the 1990s. Dan Silva previously worked on the ''Cut & Paste'' word processor (1984), also from Electronic Arts. History Deluxe Paint began as an in-house art development tool called Prism. Oren Peli ( he, אורן פלאי / אורן פלי; born January 21, 1970) is an Israeli film director, producer and screenwriter, known for directing the 2007 film ''Paranormal Activity''. Early life Peli was born in Ramat Gan, Israel, to a Jewish family. At the age of 19, he moved to the United States. Career Peli began as a computer software programmer, and was one of the developers behind Photon Paint, a bitmap graphics program for the Amiga. He is also credited for developing the networking code for the home console versions of ''Mortal Kombat 3'', during his work at Sculptured Software. His first film ''Paranormal Activity'' was inspired by Peli moving into his first house alone and without family nearby. Amiga is a family of personal computers introduced by Commodore in 1985.
