Philoxenos Zacharias
Metropolitan Zacharias Mor Philoxinos, (Malayalam: അഭിവന്ദ്യ മോര് പീലക്സീനോസ് സക്കറിയാസ് മെത്രാപ്പോലീത്ത), is a Metropolitan of the Malankara Syrian Jacobite Church. Early years Therambil Achan was born in Kumarakom, Kottayam, Kerala in 1972. He was brought up in the Syriac Orthodox faith since his childhood. He passed his SSLC exams with first class and joined St. Mary's College Manarcad Kottayam for Pre Degree Course, Philoxinos was the chief Patron of Marian Alumni The Old Students Association of St. Mary's College Manarcad, Baselious College, Kottayam where he did his B.A. in English literature. Mar ( syc, ܡܪܝ ', written with a silent final yodh; ), also Mor in Western Syriac, is an Aramaic word meaning "lord". The corresponding feminine forms in Syriac are ''Morth'' and ''Marth'' for "lady" (, '). The Jacobite Syrian Christian Church (JSCC), or the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in India also known as Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, the Jacobite Syrian Church, and the Syriac Orthodox Church in India, is a catholicate based in Kerala, India, of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch and part of the Oriental Orthodox Church. Mor Philoxenos Yuhanon (born John Jacob Elappanal; 5 December 1941 – 30 December 2015) was a Syriac Orthodox bishop. He was the Bishop Emeritus of Malabar Diocese. Early years John Jacob was born to the ''Elappanal'' Family of Pampady on 5 December 1941. In 1964, at the age of 23, he was ordained ''deacon'' by Mor Philaxinos Poulose (then Catholicose Mor Baselios Paulose II) during his rebellious Antiochian Movement, and ''Kassisho'' in 1969 by Mor Baselios Augen I. Education Jacob had his primary and high school education at Pampady. Later, he joined Baselios College (Kottayam) where he received a BA in economics. Kumarakom is a popular tourism destination located near the city of Kottayam (), in Kerala, India, famous for its backwater tourism. It is set in the backdrop of the Vembanad Lake, the largest lake in the state of Kerala. History Kumarakom was within the jurisdiction of the king of Thekkumkur while that kingdom existed, and it was usual to have fighting and competitions among local kings. Dr. Geevarghese Mor Gregorios (Perumpally Thirumeni) (10 October 1933 – 22 February 1999) was a bishop of the Syriac Orthodox Church, President of the Episcopal Synod of the Church in India, President of the Synod of the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church and the Metropolitan of Cochin, Kottayam, Kollam, Niranam and Thumpamon Dioceses.
