Phillip "Phil" Hazel (born 3 January 1956 in Napier, New Zealand) is a New Zealand former professional darts player. Career Hazel reached the final of the Viva Las Vegas NZ tournament, losing to Simon Whitlock. Despite the loss, Hazel was invited to attempt to qualify for the Las Vegas Desert Classic. After losing his first match in the first qualifier, Hazel defeated the likes of Jason Clark, Mark Stephenson and Barrie Bates to qualify. He lost in the first round to James Wade the world number two, but produced a brave battle. Mark Stephenson
Mark Stephenson (born 29 September 1976 from Yarm) is a former English professional darts player who has played in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He was formerly an official, working as a marker. Career Stephenson fell one game short of qualifying for the 2007 PDC World Darts Championship, losing to Alan Tabern. He then fell two rounds short in qualifying for the 2008 PDC World Darts Championship, losing to Kirk Shepherd who eventually qualified and went on to reach the final. Stephenson finally qualified for the World Championship at the third time of asking, beating Jason Clark, Gary Welding and then Ray Farrell to earn one of the eight qualifying spots. Osmann Kijamet (born 30 October 1980) is a former Slovenian darts player. Career Kijamet won the 2009 PDC East European Qualifying Event, earning him a place in the 2010 PDC World Darts Championship. He was the first Slovenian darts player to qualify for either version of the World Darts Championship. He defeated New Zealand's Phillip Hazel 4–2 in the preliminary round, but was whitewashed 3–0 by Andy Hamilton in the first round. James Wade
James Martin Wade (born 6 April 1983) is an English professional darts player, currently playing in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). He became the youngest player to win a major PDC title, when he won the 2007 World Matchplay at the age of 24. This record has since been broken by Michael van Gerwen. Wade has won eleven PDC majors, third in the all-time list behind Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen. He is widely considered one of the best left handed darts players of all time. Wade has also won the World Grand Prix in 2007 and 2010, the UK Open in 2008, 2011 and 2021, the Premier League in 2009, the Championship League in 2010, the Masters in 2014, the European Championship and the World Series of Darts Finals in 2018. Barrie Bates (born 17 October 1969) is a former Welsh darts player who played on the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) circuit. His original nickname was Batesy, but since 2007, he was known as Champagne. Career Bates made his PDC televised debut at the 2003 UK Open reaching the third round. In 2005 he narrowly lost a last-32 match to Lionel Sams at the UK Open and made a superb run to the final in 2006 before losing to Raymond van Barneveld. He made a great impression on the circuit in 2006, winning the John Smiths Singles in February and May's Le Skratch Sarantos Retsinas Memorial event in Montreal. Jason Clark (born 26 March 1969 in Hammersmith, London) is a former English professional darts player who played in the Professional Darts Corporation events. He was not a full-time professional, he manages his own flooring supply and fitting company. Despite being born and raised in London, he represents Scotland as his family are entirely Scottish. A dust storm, also called a sandstorm, is a meteorological phenomenon common in arid and semi-arid regions. Las Vegas Desert Classic
The Las Vegas Desert Classic was a darts tournament, organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and was held each year in July from 2002 until 2009. Its original venue was the MGM Grand Casino and Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada from 2002 to 2005, but the tournament moved down the strip to the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino from 2006 to 2009. The tournament carried a total prize purse of £126,400 (approx US$250,000). Due to the time difference between the UK and US, the matches were played in the morning local time – which is prime-time evening in the UK where the tournament was broadcast live on Sky Sports. Initially Fox Sports World transmitted the tournament live but in recent years they broadcast recorded coverage in the United States. Partypoker.net became the first sponsors of the event in 2006.
