''Philiris'' is a genus of butterflies in the family Lycaenidae. The species of this genus are found in the Australasian realm (New Guinea, Bismarck Islands, Molucca Islands and eastern Australia). ''Philiris'' was erected by Julius Röber in 1891. It is a speciose genus; Tite decided on 56 species, Sands added 11 species and placed the taxa into 21 species groups (broadly accepted by Parsons Most species are on New Guinea.Tite considered ''Philiris'' and ''Candalides'' Hübner, 1819 to be sisters. Philiris Bubalisatina
''Philiris bubalisatina'' is a species of butterfly of the family Lycaenidae. It is found in Papua New Guinea (West Sepik and Western Highlands provinces). The length of the forewings is about 20 mm. The ground colour of the forewings is black, with a large area of shining purple lilac extending from the base to near the end of the cell and the postmedian area. The underside is uniformly glossy pale buff cream, the apical area suffused with dark scales. The hindwings are shining purple blue and bluish white nearest to the costa. The underside is pale yellow cream, grading through white towards the inner margin where the area between the inner margin and vein 2 and the cubitus are light grey brown. The hindwings are dark uniform brown, with a large cream-white apical area. Etymology The species is named after the locality in Madang Province where Dr Don Sands collected part of the type series.
