The Philippines competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany. The Philippines sent its biggest delegation in the history of the Olympic Games with 53 athletes, 48 men and 5 women. Philippine Amateur Athletic Federation
The Philippine Amateur Athletic Federation (PAAF) was the governing body of sports in the Philippines and the predecessor of the Philippine Olympic Committee. History The Philippine Amateur Athletic Federation was organized in a permanent basis in 1911 as a result of the gaining of foothold of athletics in the Philippine Islands which was caused by American influence since 1899. The early proponents of the PAAF meant not only to promote athletics in the whole archipelago but in the whole Far East. The PAAF formed a committee in 1912, composed of Frank L. Crone, Elwood Stanley Brown and William Tutherly, for this purpose. The PAAF was instrumental to the organization of the Far Eastern Athletic Association (FEAA) and launched the inaugural edition of the Far Eastern Championship Games in 1913. Ricardo Cleofas
Ricardo "Joy" B. Cleofas (born February 9, 1951) is a Filipino retired basketball player. Cleofas played college ball for the Ateneo de Manila University under coach Nilo Verona. He led Ateneo to a runner-up finish in his first year together with Marte Samson. The Blue Eagles became NCAA champions in 1969 and among his teammates were Samson, Chito Afable, Jun Ross and Francis Arnaiz. After college, he played in the Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association for the YCO Painters. That same year, YCO garnered the National Seniors and Panamin tournament. Cleofas represented the Philippines in the first Youth team in 1970 that won the first ABC Youth Tournament. Domingo Yulo Itchon (1924–2004) was a Filipino business executive and best known as the second president of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Itchon played a key role in organizing the PBA, Asia's first professional basketball league. A '' cum laude'' from the University of the East (Business Administration), CPA board topnotcher and Harvard University graduate, he became the Elizalde Group of Companies' controller and was Don Manolo Elizalde's most trusted finance executive. Ignacio Ramos (basketball)
Ignacio "Ning" R. Ramos (died June 22, 2012) was a Filipino basketball player and coach. Ramos played for the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the NCAA from 1949 to 1950. He was part of the Philippine national basketball team that captured the gold medal at the 1951 Asian Games in New Delhi, India. Manuel Paner (born May 17, 1949), better known as Manny Paner, is a Filipino retired professional basketball player. Player profile Paner was born in Cebu City, Philippines. During his prime, he was known for his strong rebounding, defense and deadly hook shot. At a mere 6'2", he would play center and sometimes defend the opposing team's American imports.
