Philippine Touring Car Championship
The Philippine Touring Car Championships (PTCC), formerly the Philippine National Touring Car Championships, is the only touring car series running under the banner of the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP). Race Fans Incorporated, a private enterprise, has undertaken organizing, promotion, and marketing activities of this event after being granted exclusive permission in a memorandum of agreement with the AAP. PTCC races run both at the Subic International Raceway (owned and operated by Philippine racing legend Pocholo Ramirez) and the Batangas Racing Circuit (owned and operated by Johnny Tan). Subic International Raceway
Subic International Raceway was a Race track, racing circuit at the Subic Freeport Zone in the Philippines. It was built in 1993, through the efforts of famed race car driver Pocholo Ramirez. History The eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991 led to the United States abandoning their base in Subic. The Subic International Raceway was established at the site of the former Naval Air Station Cubi Point's refuelling area for fighter jets. Former Filipino race car driver Pocholo Ramirez with the help of other figures in Philippine racing including Mandy Eduque, Mike Potenciano, Macky Carapiet, Louis Camus, Freddy Masigan set up Sports Values Incorporated (SVI) so that they could convert the existing paved roads and taxiways into a racing circuit. Pocholo Ramirez
José "Pocholo" del Rosario Ramírez de Arellano (January 19, 1933 – March 18, 2009), better known as Pocholo Ramírez, was a Filipino race car driver and television host. Also known as "Tito Poch", Ramirez was hailed as a racing legend in the Philippines, with a career in racing that spanned 45 years. Racing career Ramirez was born in Manila, Philippines. He began his racing career at the age of 30, beginning as a kart racer, then as a rally car driver starting in 1964. He won the Shell Car Rally Championship in 1966 and 1970, and was named Slalom Driver of the Year in 1967 and 1968. Ramirez began circuit racing in 1969 and formula racing in 1974. Between 1973 and 1986, Ramirez participated in several prominent Grand Prix races in Southeast Asia, including the Macau Grand Prix, the Malaysian Grand Prix, the Selangor Grand Prix and the Indonesian Grand Prix. Johnny Tan
Juan Cañizares Tan (October 10, 1922–September 8, 2005), known as Johnny Tan, was a Filipino trade union leader. Tan grew up in Manila, and attended the Ateneo de Manila High School. He began working closely with the Catholic priest Walter Hogan, and the two founded the Institute of Social Order in 1946, Tan becoming its secretary. The institute aimed to promote positive relations between workers and management. In 1950, Hogan and Tan decided to form a trade union federation, the Federation of Free Workers (FFW), with Tan becoming its president. It was soon followed by the Federation of Free Farmers. The FFW supported a strike at the University of Santo Tomas, this leading to Hogan being exiled, and Tan becoming the leading figure in the organisation. The Asian Formula Three Championship was a single-seater racing series based in South East Asia. It is one of a number of national and international Formula Three championships that form part of an established "career ladder" below Formula One. It was most recently promoted as the Asian F3 Pacific Series. The 2009 series collapsed through a lack of competitors with some teams dispersing to other Formula 3 series in the region. Creation and management The creators of the Asian F3 Championship intended the series to provide young Asian drivers with a stepping stone to the higher levels of single-seater motor racing.
