Philippine Badminton Association
The Philippine Badminton Association (PBAD) is the national governing body for badminton in the Philippines. The country joined International Badminton Federation in 1950 but it was not until 1952 the country organized its association. In December 2022, the PBAD announced it would be national ranking system the following year in conjunction with the return of the Philippine Badminton Open. Pasig
Pasig, officially the City of Pasig ( fil, Lungsod ng Pasig), is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the National Capital Region of the Philippines. Amparo Lim
Amparo "Weena" Lim (born 9 September 1969) is a Filipino badminton player who competed in the women's singles at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Early life Amparo Lim was born on 9 September 1969, one of five children to Jose "Dondo" V. Lim III and Remedios "Baby" P. Gana. Her elder brother Joey Lim was a basketball tournament organizer. She was coached by Nelson Asuncion. Career Lim was the first Philippine badminton player to compete at the Olympics. She participated in the women's singles category at the 1996 Summer Olympics but lost to Poland's Kataryna Krasowska in the first round by 6-11, 5-11. She teamed with Kennie Asuncion to win the women's doubles title at the 1996 Australian Open and secured a bronze in women's singles. Badminton In The Philippines
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Play ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor or if a fault has been called by the umpire, service judge, or (in their absence) the opposing side. The shuttlecock is a feathered or (in informal matches) plastic projectile which flies differently from the balls used in many other sports. Philippines National Badminton Team
The Philippines national badminton team ( fil, Pambansang koponan ng badminton ng Pilipinas) represents the Philippines in international badminton competitions. It is controlled by the Philippine Badminton Association. Nicknamed ''Smash Pilipinas'', The Filipino team won bronze in the men's and women's team events at the Southeast Asian Games, in 1987 and 1981 respectively. History Badminton has been played in the Philippines since the 1920s when British and American expatriates introduced the sport to the country. Paula Lynn Cao Hok (née Obañana; born March 19, 1985) is a Filipino-American badminton player who was originally from Dumaguete, Philippines. In 2015, she won the women's doubles gold medals at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada partnered with Eva Lee. In 2016, she competed at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Kennevic Asuncion (Chinese: 洪育雄; born March 21, 1980) is a male badminton player from the Philippines. He was born in Barbaza, Antique and is the son of former Philippine Badminton Team Coach Nelson Asuncion. He plays doubles with his sister Kennie Asuncion. The brother-sister team used to host a now defunct local badminton TV show, ''Badminton Extreme'' along with their father. The show was canceled due to the siblings' training for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In its steed a magazine called Badminton Extreme was released. The Badminton Asia is the governing body of badminton in Asia. It is one of the 5 continental bodies under the flag of the Badminton World Federation (BWF). The confederation was established in 1959, headquartered in Malé, Maldives. It aims to maintain Asia as the benchmark for world badminton in many years to come. It now has 43 member federations. It had decided in the Annual General Meeting on July 16, 2006 that the confederation name was changed from Asian Badminton Confederation (ABC) to Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC).
