Philippine Athletics Track And Field Association
The Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) is the Sports governing body, National Sports Association (NSA) for Athletics (sport), athletics sports such as track and field, road running, cross country running, and racewalking in the Philippines, including the core athletics sports which constitute the Decathlon in the Olympic Games. PATAFA is also a member of the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) and the World Athletics. In 2015 the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) formally recognized the NSA after PATAFA met compliance with several requirements such as an updated constitution, by-laws and inclusion of the true stakeholders of the sport. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. Rufus Bautista Rodriguez (born September 13, 1953) is a Filipino lawyer and politician. He is the president of the Centrist Democratic Party and has been a member of the House of Representatives representing the Cagayan de Oro's 2nd district from 2007 to 2016 and from 2019 to today. He previously served as Vice Governor of Misamis Oriental from 1984 to 1986 and Board Member from 1980 to 1984. Ernest John Uy Obiena (born November 17, 1995) is a Filipino pole vaulter. Before breaking the Asian Athletics Championships record, he held the Philippine national record in pole vaulting with a record of 5.55 meters which he accomplished on April 29, 2016, at the 78th Singapore Open Championships in Kallang, Singapore. He later broke the Asian Athletics Championships record with 5.71 meters on April 21, 2019, on its 23rd biennial meet at Doha, Qatar which earned him the coveted gold medal finish. Mary Joy Reyes Tabal (born July 13, 1989) is a Filipino marathon runner. She is the first female Filipino marathon runner to qualify for the Olympics, which she has done by running a time of 2:43:29 in the Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon in 2016. She placed 124th at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Tabal, a veteran of local and international marathons, has won a silver medal in the women's marathon competition in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, and a gold medal in the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and won the women's division title in the National Milo Marathon Finals for six straight years, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. In sports under the athletics banner, certain competitions require an athlete to meet a qualifying standard, meaning a mark as good or better than this set mark, in order to be eligible to compete. Naturally, an elite level competition does not want to embarrass its reputation nor the competitor in an event beyond their competition level.
