Philip Samuelsson
Philip Bo Samuelsson (born July 26, 1991) is a Swedish-American professional ice hockey defenceman for Straubing Tigers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Samuelsson was drafted in the second round, 61st overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He is the son of two-time Penguins Stanley Cup winner, Ulf Samuelsson. Background Samuelsson was born in Leksand, Sweden, and raised in the United States where his father played in the National Hockey League (NHL) until 2000. As a youth, he played in the 2004 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Philadelphia Flyers minor ice hockey team. Leksand
Leksand () is a locality and the seat of Leksand Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 5,934 inhabitants in 2010. Sport Leksand is famous for the Leksands IF ice hockey team, who have won 4 Swedish Championships, although the team is currently facing problems in performance when playing and they have received less funds. Leksand is also home to the Leksands Baseball and Softball Club, the oldest and one of the more successful baseball clubs in Sweden, having won 20 national championships in baseball and 7 in softball. Minor hockey is an umbrella term for amateur ice hockey which is played below the junior age level. Players are classified by age, with each age group playing in its own league. The rules, especially as it relates to body contact, vary from class to class. In North America, the rules are governed by the national bodies, Hockey Canada and USA Hockey, while local hockey associations administer players and leagues for their region. Many provinces and states organize regional and provincial championship tournaments, and the highest age groups in Canada and USA also participate in national championships. The Boston College Eagles are a Division I college hockey program that represent Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. 2009 IIHF World U18 Championships
The 2009 IIHF World U18 Championships were held in Fargo, North Dakota and Moorhead, Minnesota, United States. The championships ran from April 9 to April 19, 2009. Games were played at the Urban Plains Center in Fargo and the Moorhead Sports Center in Moorhead. Fargo-Moorhead defeated Providence, Rhode Island and St. Cloud, Minnesota for the rights to host the event. The United States, as the host country, won their third gold medal in five years, defeating Russia 5–0 in the final. United States Hockey League
The United States Hockey League (USHL) is the top junior ice hockey league sanctioned by USA Hockey. The league consists of 16 active teams located in the midwestern United States, for players between the ages of 16 and 21. The USHL is strictly amateur, allowing former players to compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA college hockey. The Chicago Steel won the Anderson Cup as the 2020–21 regular season champions and the 2021 Clark Cup, Clark Cup playoff championship; both were their second in franchise history. The Chicago Steel are members of the United States Hockey League, joining the league in 2000. The Steel have played their home games at Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Illinois, since 2015; previously, the team played at Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Illinois, from 2000 to 2015. History The Fargo-Moorhead Ice Sharks, founded in 1996, moved to Bensenville, Illinois, and became the Chicago Steel in 2000. The Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), sometimes referred to as the British Elite League or, for sponsorship reasons, the Viaplay Elite League, is an ice hockey league in the United Kingdom. The Manchester Storm are a United Kingdom, British professional ice hockey team founded in 2015. Henrik Samuelsson (born February 7, 1994) is an American professional ice hockey player of Swedish ancestry. He is currently playing for HK Levice in the Slovak 1. Liga. Samuelsson was most recently with the Manchester Storm of the UK EIHL . Previously, he played with the Worcester Railers of the ECHL, Modo Hockey in the Swedish Hockey League and the Arizona Coyotes in the National Hockey League (NHL).
