Philip Mastin
Philip Mastin (May 27, 1930 – November 28, 2012) was an American politician. Mastin served as a Democrat in the Michigan House of Representatives' 69th District and then in the Michigan State Senate's 8th District. He was removed from his state senate seat after losing a recall election in 1984, becoming the first Michigan state legislator to be successfully recalled. During his 25 years in Michigan government, he also served as Hazel Park City Councilman, Oakland County supervisor, Oakland County commissioner, deputy chairman and treasurer of the Oakland County Democratic Party, Pontiac city manager, and director of the Downtown Development Authority in Pontiac. He served for two terms as President of the Mental Health Association in Michigan (1987-1988) and was a member of the state association's Board of Directors from 1977 and was elected an "Honorary Board Member" in 2000. Michigan House Of Representatives
The Michigan House of Representatives is the lower house of the Michigan Legislature. There are 110 members, each of whom is elected from constituencies having approximately 77,000 to 91,000 residents, based on population figures from the 2010 U.S. Census. Its composition, powers and duties are established in Article IV of the Michigan Constitution. Members are elected in even-numbered years and take office at 12 p.m. (EST) on January 1 following the November general election. Concurrently with the Michigan Senate, the House first convenes on the second Wednesday in January, according to the state constitution. Each member is limited to serving three terms of two years. Michigan State Senate
The Michigan Senate is the upper house of the Michigan Legislature. Along with the Michigan House of Representatives, it composes the state legislature, which has powers, roles and duties defined by Article IV of the Michigan Constitution, adopted in 1963. The primary purpose of the Legislature is to enact new laws and amend or repeal existing laws. The Michigan Senate is composed of 38 members, each elected from a single-member district with a population of between approximately 212,400 to 263,500 residents. Legislative districts are drawn on the basis of population figures, provided by the federal decennial census. Senators' terms begin immediately upon their election. Republicans hold the majority in the State Senate with twenty-two seats; Democrats hold the minority with sixteen seats. A recall election (also called a recall referendum, recall petition or representative recall) is a procedure by which, in certain polities, voters can remove an elected official from office through a referendum before that official's term of office has ended. Hazel Park is a city in Oakland County, Michigan, Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As a part of Metro Detroit, the city shares its southern border with the city of Detroit. Pontiac ( ') is a city in and the county seat of Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 61,606. A northern suburb of Metro Detroit, Pontiac is about northwest of Detroit. Founded in 1818, Pontiac was the second European-American organized settlement in Michigan near Detroit, after Dearborn. United Way is an international network of over 1,800 local nonprofit fundraising affiliates. United Way was the largest nonprofit organization in the United States by donations from the public, prior to 2016.
