Cheshire (UK Parliament Constituency)
Cheshire is a former United Kingdom parliamentary constituency for the county of Cheshire. It was a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of England then of the Parliament of Great Britain from 1707 to 1800 and of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1832. As a county palatine it was unrepresented in the Parliament until the Chester and Cheshire (Constituencies) Act 1542 (34 & 35 Hen VIII. c. 13). Cheshire was represented by two Knights of the Shire from 1545, with only County Durham out of the English counties being left unrepresented after that. It was divided between the constituencies of North Cheshire and South Cheshire in 1832. Sir Philip Grey Egerton, 9th Baronet
Rev. Sir Philip Grey-Egerton, 9th Baronet (6 July 1767 – 12 December 1829) was the Rector of Tarpoeley and Malpas and was the 9th Baronet Grey Egerton. He was born in 1767 as the son of Philip Egerton, and Mary Eyles, daughter of Sir Francis Haskins Eyles-Stiles and Sibella Egerton. He inherited the Baronet from his elder brother Sir John Grey Egerton, 8th Baronet in 1825 when his brother died without issue, adopting the surname Grey the same time. Family He married Rebecca Du Pre, daughter of Josias Du Pre, Governor of Madras and his wife Rebecca Alexander, sister of James Alexander, 1st Earl of Caledon. Sir Philip Grey Egerton, 10th Baronet
Sir Philip de Malpas Grey Egerton, 10th Baronet FRS (13 November 1806 – 5 April 1881) was an English palaeontologist and Conservative politician from the Egerton family. He sat in the House of Commons variously between 1830 and his death in 1881. Early life Egerton was the son of Sir Philip Grey Egerton, 9th Baronet and his wife Rebecca Du Pre, daughter of Josias Du Pre of Wilton Park, Beaconsfield. He was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford, where he graduated BA in 1828. While at college his interest in geology was aroused by the lectures of William Buckland, and by his acquaintance with William D. Conybeare. He inherited the baronetcy on the death of his father in 1829. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1831, and was a trustee of the British Museum. Philip Reginald Egerton (14 July 1832 – 28 April 1911) was an English Church of England priest and schoolmaster, who re-founded Bloxham School in Oxfordshire in 1860. Early life Egerton was born in Bunbury, Cheshire, the son of John Egerton and Ellen Gould.Old Bloxhamist Society, 'P. R. Egerton: The Years of Risk, 1859-1864', ''A History of Bloxham School'' (H.E. The Egerton, ''later'' Grey Egerton, ''later still'' Egerton baronetcy, ''of Egerton and Oulton in the county of Chester'', is a title in the Baronetage of England held by the senior patrilineal branch of the Egerton family. One of the earliest English baronetcies created, Sir Roland Egerton left many male descendants in remainder to his title. History Background The baronetcy was created on 5 April 1617 for Sir Roland Egerton, whose family were established by the 13th century in Cheshire.
