Philip Clark (radio Presenter)
Philip Clark (born May 1956) is an Australian radio presenter. He is best known for his work at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and at Sydney commercial station 2GB. Since 2016, he has hosted the Monday to Thursday editions of ''Nightlife'' on the ABC Local Radio network. Career Clark was born in Launceston, Tasmania. He studied arts and law at the Australian National University in Canberra where he lived from 1974 to 1987. After graduating from university, Clark worked for Labor senator John Button during the Hawke government. In 1986, Clark moved to Sydney where he practiced law with a major law firm. He then joined ''The Sydney Morning Herald'' in 1988 where he covered state politics and edited the newspaper's ''Stay in Touch'' column. History Of ABC Radio (Australia)
ABC Radio and Regional Content, later ABC Radio, was the division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation responsible for radio output and regional content. Origins The first public radio station in Australia opened in Sydney at 8:00pm on 23 November 1923 under the call sign 2SB. Other stations in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart followed. A licensing scheme administered by the Postmaster-General's Department, was soon established allowing certain stations government funding, albeit with restrictions placed on their advertising content. In 1924 the licensing system was changed. The Postmaster-General's Department collected all licence fees and broadcasters were funded as either A-Class or B-Class stations. A-Class stations received government funding and were able to take limited advertising, while B-Class stations received no government funding but could carry more advertising. The program focuses on critiquing the Australian media together with its interconnections, including with politics. David Keith Williamson Officer of the Order of Australia, AO (born 24 February 1942) is an Australians, Australian dramatist and playwright. He has also written screenplays and teleplays. Early life David Williamson was born in Melbourne, Victoria (Australia), Victoria, on 24 February 1942, and was brought up in Bairnsdale. ''Meet the Press'' was an Australian Sunday morning talk show focused on the national political agenda, as well as other news, sport and lifestyle issues. History ''Meet the Press'' was originally a radio and television simulcast between 3DB and HSV-7 in Melbourne. It commenced in 1957, the very early days of television, well before the simultaneous national broadcasting of programs was possible. The original moderator was Herald and Weekly Times journalist Frederick Howard. (The HWT then owned both 3DB and HSV-7.) Tony Delroy
Anthony Eric Delroy (born 1 January 1953) is a retired Australian radio presenter. Delroy hosted ABC Local Radio's late-night talkback show ''Nightlife'' from 1987 to 2016 when he retired. Background and career Delroy commenced working in news radio on Sydney station 2SM while completing his schooling. He joined the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and worked on-air in Bathurst while studying journalism. After a short stint in Launceston, Delroy was appointed news director of 2UE. In 1987, he joined 702 ABC Sydney and soon took over the ''Nightlife'' program, at a period when broadcasts used to end about midnight or 1:00 am. ABC Radio Canberra (call sign: 2CN) is an ABC Local Radio station based in Canberra and broadcasting to the Australian Capital Territory as well as surrounding areas in New South Wales – this includes the cities and towns of Queanbeyan, Yass, and Bungendore. The station began as 2CN in 1953 originally broadcasting on 1540 kHz and from 21 December 1974 at 1440 kHz. On 6 December 1983, it changed to its current AM frequency of 666 kHz. Mercedes Corby
Schapelle Leigh Corby (born 10 July 1977) is an Australian woman who was convicted of smuggling cannabis into Indonesia. She spent nine years imprisoned on the Indonesian island of Bali in Kerobokan Prison. Since her arrest Corby has publicly maintained that the drugs were planted in her bodyboard bag and that she did not know about them. Her trial and conviction were a major focus of attention for the Australian media. Corby was convicted on 27 May 2005 for the importation of of cannabis into Bali. She was sentenced to 20 years by the Denpasar District Court and imprisoned in Kerobokan Prison. On appeal her conviction and sentence were confirmed with finality by the Indonesian Supreme Court. In March 2010, Corby petitioned the President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, for clemency on the grounds of mental illness. In May 2012, she was granted a five-year sentence reduction.
