Philadelphia Force (UWLX)
The Philadelphia Force are a United Women's Lacrosse League (UWLX) professional women's field lacrosse team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They have played in the UWLX since the 2016 season. In the 2016 season, the four teams in the UWLX will play on a barnstorming format, with all four teams playing at a single venue. Franchise history The Philadelphia Force is one of the original four teams of the United Women's Lacrosse League (MLL). UWLX was founded by Digit Murphy and Aronda Kirby in a strategic partnership with STX. On February 23, 2016, Caitlin Jackson was announced as the first general manager in franchise history. On March 17, 2016, Missy Doherty was announced as the Force's first head coach. 2016 UWLX Season
The 2016 United Women's Lacrosse League season, the first in the history of the UWLX, started on May 28, 2016 and ended with the league championship game on July 31, 2016 in which the Long Island Sound defeated the Boston Storm in a 13-8 final. The first game in league history took place on May 28, 2016 at Goodman Stadium at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Opposing the Baltimore Ride, Long Island prevailed by a 13-12 tally. The team's first-ever goal was scored by McKinley Curro, who would also score the league's first-ever two-point goal. Devon Wills served as the starting goaltender, allowing the first goal in UWLX history to Baltimore's Beth Glaros, while also registering the first win in league history. Michelle Tumolo
Michelle Tumolo (born March 20, 1991) is an American women's lacrosse coach and former player. She has been the Head Coach of the Army Black Knights women's lacrosse team since 2021. After playing with the Syracuse Orange women's lacrosse at the collegiate level, she was named to the US national team for the 2015–16 season. In 2016, she was selected by the Philly Force as their first-ever draft pick in the inaugural United Women's Lacrosse League Draft. Playing career Raised in the Mullica Hill section of Harrison Township, New Jersey, Tumolo began her career in the summer of 2005 before her freshman year at Clearview Regional High School, where she was a three-time captain. In her junior year, she participated in the 2008 National High School Girls' Lacrosse Tournament. Lacrosse is a team sport played with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse ball. It is the oldest organized sport in North America, with its origins with the indigenous people of North America as early as the 12th century. The game was extensively modified by European colonists, reducing the violence, to create its current collegiate and professional form. Players use the head of the lacrosse stick to carry, pass, catch, and shoot the ball into the goal. Box Lacrosse
Box lacrosse, also known as boxla, box, or indoor lacrosse, is an indoor version of lacrosse played mostly in North America. The game originated in Canada in the 1930s, where it is more popular than field lacrosse. Lacrosse is Canada's official national summer sport. Box lacrosse is played between two teams of five players and one goalie each, and is traditionally played on an ice hockey rink once the ice has been removed or covered. The playing area is called a box, in contrast to the open playing field of field lacrosse. The National Lacrosse League (NLL) is a men's professional box lacrosse league in North America. The league is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The NLL currently has fifteen teams: ten in the United States and five in Canada. Major League Lacrosse
Major League Lacrosse (MLL) was a men's field lacrosse league in the United States. The league's inaugural season was in 2001. Teams played anywhere from ten to 16 games in a summertime regular season. This was followed by a four-team playoff for the championship trophy, the Steinfeld Trophy, named after founder Jake Steinfeld. League attendance peaked at 6,417 in 2011 and the 2019 average was 4,587. The Chesapeake Bayhawks and New York Lizards (originally the Baltimore Bayhawks and Long Island Lizards) were MLL members throughout its existence and competed in the first three championship games, with the Lizards winning two. Alyssa Murray
Alyssa Murray (born March 17, 1992) is a professional American lacrosse player playing for the Philadelphia Force (UWLX). She played college lacrosse for the Syracuse Orange women's lacrosse. Career Murray had a stand out high school career at West Babylon High School in West Babylon, New York, where she set the standing NYSPHSAA all-time record for career assists, registering 278 between 2008-10. Combined with 284 goals, Alyssa finished her scholastic career with 562 career points, along the way becoming a four-time All-Suffolk County honoree and a 2009 US Lacrosse High School All-American. At Syracuse, she was second on school's all-time scoring list (362 pts), third in career goals (225) and assists (136), and fourth in single season points (2014 - 110 pts).
