Phil Yates (announcer)
Phil Yates is a New Zealand game designer who has worked primarily on board games. Yates is known as the designer of ''Flames of War'', a World War II Miniature wargame, tabletop miniatures wargame. Career Phil Yates began playing wargames in the early 1970s and began designing games in the mid-1980s. Yates is the lead games designer for the New Zealand company Battlefront Miniatures, for whom he designed the ''Flames of War'' miniatures game. Yates posted the ''Flames of War'' rules online as a free download, and Battlefront published physical rulebooks as well. Yates has written or co-authored many Intelligence Handbooks and Battle and Campaign books for ''Flames of War''. His designs include ''Flames of War: Open Fire!'' (2012), ''Flames of War: Tour of Duty'' (2013), and a fourth edition of the ''Flames of War'' game in 2017. Green Ronin Publishing is an American company based in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 2000 by Chris Pramas and Nicole Lindroos, they have published several role-playing game–related products. They won several awards for their games including multiple Origins, ENnie, Pen & Paper, and Inquest Fan Awards. Wargames Illustrated is a magazine dedicated to miniature wargaming which is focused on historical tabletop wargames. The monthly magazine has both paper and digital editions and maintains editorial, design and administrative staff in Nottingham, England. The magazine reviews new products, provides advice on painting miniatures, produces campaign settings, and researches historical battles. It is in a large part based on submission of content from wargaming enthusiasts around the world. Miniature wargaming is a form of wargaming in which military units are represented by miniature physical models on a model battlefield. The use of physical models to represent military units is in contrast to other tabletop wargames that use abstract pieces such as counters or blocks, or computer wargames which use virtual models.
