Phil Mulkey
Philip Roy Mulkey (January 7, 1933 – September 17, 2022) was an American track and field athlete, primarily known for the multi-event decathlon. Mulkey was the second place American behind Rafer Johnson at the 1960 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships which served as Olympic Trials. Vasili Kuznetsov (athlete)
Vasili Dmitriyevich Kuznetsov (russian: Василий Дмитриевич Кузнецов, 7 February 1932 – 6 August 2001) was a Soviet and Russian decathlete who won the European title in 1954, 1958 and 1962. He competed for the Soviet Union at the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Olympics and won bronze medals in 1956 and 1960, placing seventh in 1964. Kuznetsov took up athletics in the late 1940s and won a record 10 national decathlon titles in 1953-60 and 1962–63. He set two decathlon world records: in May 1958, he was the first athlete to break the 8,000 points barrier on the 1952 scoring system, with 8,014 points (7,653 (1985)) in Krasnodar. He set his second world record in May 1959 at 8,357 (7,839 (1985)). He also held three pentathlon world records at 3,736 in 1956, 3,901 in 1958, and 4,006 in 1959. USATF
USA Track & Field (USATF) is the United States national governing body for the sports of track and field, cross country running, road running and racewalking (known as the sport of athletics outside the US). The USATF was known between 1979 and 1992 as ''The Athletics Congress'' (TAC) after its spin off from the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), which governed the sport in the US through most of the 20th century until the Amateur Sports Act of 1978 dissolved its responsibility. Vestavia Hills High School. Vestavia Hills High School (VHHS), founded in 1970, is a public high school in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama, USA. It is part of the Vestavia Hills City Schools. History The land was acquired by Louis Pizitz, a Polish immigrant who settled in Birmingham in 1889. Pizitz lived here with his wife, Minnie and their son, Hortense. After their death, their son Hortense sold the land to the City of Vestavia Hills in the 1960s. The school was built in the 1970s, in the context of the establishment of segregation academies in the 1970s, which enabled white children to segregate themselves from black children, who remained in public schools. The Altamont School
The Altamont School, located in Birmingham, Alabama atop Red Mountain, is a college preparatory day school with coeducational enrollment of grades 5– 12. Masters Athletics
Masters athletics is a class of the sport of athletics for athletes of over 35 years of age. The events include track and field, road running and cross country running. Competitors are bracketed into five-year age groups (which promotes fair competition). For international events the first age group is 35 to 39. Men as old as 105 and women in their 100s have competed in running, jumping and throwing events. Masters athletes are sometimes known as "veterans" and the European Masters Championships, for instance, is known as "Eurovets." This and other high level events including biennial World Championships cater largely to elite-level athletes, but many masters athletes are novices to athletics and enjoy the camaraderie offered by masters competition at the local, National and International level. Philipa Raschker
Eileen-Philippa "Phil" Raschker (born February 21, 1947) is a German-born American masters athlete. Raschker was born in Hamburg, where she first competed in swimming and gymnastics. She first tried track at age 13. She emigrated to the United States in the late 1960s and now is an accountant in Marietta, Georgia. She has amassed 71 Gold Medals at the World Masters Athletics Championships, including the three she won at the most recent championships in 2011, since she began competing at that level in 1983. As of 2010, she holds ten outdoor Masters World Records across sprints, hurdles and jumping events and another dozen indoors. August 1988 a major milestone was achieved when she was the first female to pole vault at a major USA track and field outdoor championship. World Masters Athletics
World Masters Athletics (WMA) is the worldwide governing body for the sport of masters athletics – which includes track and field, cross country, and road running events – as participated by people over 35 years of age. As the need became apparent, the organization started under the name of World Association of Veteran Athletes (WAVA), founded August 9, 1977, at the second World Association of Veteran Athletes Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden. United States Records In Masters Athletics
These are the current records in the various age groups of masters athletics for United States competitors. Starting at age 35, each age group starts on the athlete's birthday in years that are evenly divisible by 5 and extends until the next such occurrence. For record purposes, older athletes are not included in younger age groups, except in the case of relay team members. A relay team's age group is determined by the age of the youngest member. There are two categories of relay records, one for composite teams made up of four American runners usually National teams at major championships, and a Club record for members of the same club, from the same Association. Some masters events (hurdles, throwing implements) have modified specifications. The combined events use an age-graded result applied against the standard scoring table. The World Masters Athletics Championships are the biennial championships for masters athletics events held under the auspices of World Masters Athletics, formerly called the World Association of Veteran Athletes, for athletes 35 years of age or older. Masters athletes are divided into 5-year age groups. The outdoor championships began in Toronto, Canada on August 11, 1975 and have continued in odd numbered years.
