Phil Edwards (boxer)
Philip Cilia (born 12 May 1936) was a Welsh Middleweight boxer who fought under the name Phil Edwards. Edwards was Wales middleweight champion from 1957 until his retirement in 1962. One of the best British fighters at his weight, Edwards was unfortunate to box during the reign of Terry Downes, and he twice failed in a challenge for the British title against Downes. Boxing career Edwards was born in Cardiff, Wales in 1936 as Philip Cilia to a Maltese father and Welsh mother.Jones (2009), pp.48–50 He was orphaned at the age of 11, but was looked after by an older brother. Philip Edwards (3 September 1949 – 24 April 2017) was a British professional road racing cyclist. Cycling career He represented the United Kingdom at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, where he finished sixth in the road race, just behind teammate Phil Bayton. He represented England in the road race, at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand before becoming a professional cyclist from 1976 to 1980. It was reported that he died of a suspected heart attack at his home in Monaco on Monday, 24 April 2017 aged 67. Phil Edwards (footballer)
Philip Lee Edwards (born 8 November 1985) is an English former professional footballer who made 485 appearances in the EFL. Edwards began his football career at Wigan Athletic, progressing through the club's youth system before signing a professional contract at the age of 18. In September 2004, Edwards joined Morecambe on a month's loan, playing one game before returning to Wigan. He was loaned out again during the 2005–06 season, this time to Accrington Stanley in October 2005. He subsequently signed for the club permanently in January 2006, helping them win the Conference National. He spent five years at Accrington, playing over 250 games for them in all competitions. In June 2011, Edwards signed for Stevenage on a free transfer. In March 2012, he joined Rochdale on loan until the end of the 2011–12 season.
