Phi Aquarii
Phi Aquarii, Latinized from φ Aquarii, is the Bayer designation for a binary star system in the equatorial constellation of Aquarius. It is visible to the naked eye with a combined apparent visual magnitude of +4.223. Parallax measurements indicate its distance from Earth is roughly , and it is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +2.5 km/s. It is 1.05 degrees south of the ecliptic so it is subject to lunar occultations. This is a spectroscopic binary star system with an estimated period of 2,500 days. The primary component is a red giant star with a stellar classification of M1.5 III. The outer envelope of this evolved star has expanded to 35 times the size of the Sun. The star has the same mass as the Sun. John Flamsteed (19 August 1646 – 31 December 1719) was an English astronomer and the first Astronomer Royal. His main achievements were the preparation of a 3,000-star catalogue, ''Catalogus Britannicus'', and a star atlas called ''Atlas Coelestis'', both published posthumously. Stellar evolution is the process by which a star changes over the course of time. Depending on the mass of the star, its lifetime can range from a few million years for the most massive to trillions of years for the least massive, which is considerably longer than the age of the universe.
