''Phantom Blue'' is the self-titled first studio album by all-female heavy metal band Phantom Blue, released in 1989 through Shrapnel Records (United States) and Roadrunner Records (Europe and Japan). Guitarist Marty Friedman, at the time a member of the band Cacophony, and later of Megadeth, is credited as a co-producer. Cacophony (band)
Cacophony was an American heavy metal band formed in 1986 by guitarists Marty Friedman and Jason Becker, and signed to Shrapnel Records. They released two studio albums and remained active until 1989, after which both guitarists forged their own solo careers and joined other bands. History The two albums released by Cacophony, '' Speed Metal Symphony'' (1987) and ''Go Off!'' (1988), were showpieces of the kind of highly technical playing typical of the 1980s shred era, with songs featuring fast tempos, melodic solos, exotic neoclassical scales and dual guitar harmonizations. Several of the tracks were entirely instrumental, which prominently demonstrated Friedman and Becker's renowned technical skills. Kim Nielsen (guitarist)
Kim Nielsen (born 1964) is an American hard rock bassist known for being a member of the all-female band Phantom Blue. Biography Kim Nielsen first picked up the bass guitar at the age of 12. In the years to come, she played with local bands in Los Angeles, California, while taking lessons from Racer X bassist Juan Alderete. In 1988, following a recommendation by Alderete, Nielsen joined the all-female heavy metal band Phantom Blue. The band with Nielsen on bass recorded three albums and toured successfully in Europe. Following her departure from the band in April 1994, Nielsen moved to England, where she married former Belladonna drummer Adam Parsons, now an artist manager in the music business. In 1996, she joined the Nottingham-based metal band Wraith and recorded their ''Schizophrenia'' album. Michelle Meldrum (September 28, 1968 – May 21, 2008) was an American hard rock guitarist known for being a member of the bands Phantom Blue and Meldrum. Biography Meldrum was born in Detroit, Michigan, to a family of musicians and actors (grandfather Thomas Hubbard and Great Uncle Elbert Hubbard). The family moved to Los Angeles, California when she was 13. She started playing guitar at age 14. Uli Jon Roth and Michael Schenker were her main influences after listening to albums such as the Scorpions' 1976 album '' Virgin Killer''.
