Pfaltzgraff is an American kitchenware brand of dinnerware, serveware, drinkware and flatware. History It is commonly reported that the Pfaltzgraff company was founded in 1811 in York County, Pennsylvania, by several members of the Pfaltzgraff family who were potters. The most notable member was Johann George Pfaltzgraff, who arrived in York County from Germany in 1833. Johann knew the trade well and passed his skills on to his seven sons. After Johann died in 1873, the family business was carried on by three of his children: John, George, and Henry. The business became official in 1889 when George and Henry started a partnership that would become ''The Pfaltzgraff Co.'' The first factory was built in 1895. The business continued to grow, and in 1960, Pfaltzgraff opened their first retail store under the name ''Pottery Hill.'' During the 1950s and 1960s, the products were mostly sold in specialty stores, but in the 1970s, the business made a strategic decision to sell in highe ...

Johann George Pfaltzgraff
Johann George Pfaltzgraff or Pfaltzgraf (May 5, 1808 – January 7, 1873) was a German-American potter and businessman. He is recognized as the first potter in the Pfaltzgraff family of potters in the United States. Pfaltzgraff Pottery Co. is known as the oldest pottery company in the USA. Lifetime Brands purchased the business in 2005. Born in Frielendorf, Germany, he moved to Foustown in York County, Pennsylvania, United States in 1833. He arrived with his wife Hedwig Eleonore (Elenora) Bramer right after they were married on May 27, 1833, in Frielendorf. Elenora was a commoner by German standards while Johann came from a family of great distinction and the upper class, as his family owned a pottery company. The marriage was frowned upon by his family in Germany, so Johann decided that a move to the United States was in the best interests of himself and Elenora. The Murals of York, Pennsylvania are a series of murals painted on the sides of buildings in York, Pennsylvania between 1996 and 2002. Paid for with local donations, the murals provide the community with details about some lesser-known people, businesses, and customs of the city while adding artistic beauty. The York County History Center owns and shares rights to the use of the mural images. History In the 1990s a group of individuals from York traveled to Chemainus, British Columbia, Chemainus, Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
