Peziza Domiciliana
''Peziza domiciliana'', commonly known as the domicile cup fungus, is a species of fungus in the genus ''Peziza'', family Pezizaceae. Described by English mycologist Mordecai Cubitt Cooke, the fungus grows on rotten wood, drywall/plasterboard, and plaster in homes, damp cellars, and basements. It is known from Asia, Europe, North America, and Antarctica. Taxonomy and phylogeny The fungus was first species description, described in 1877 by the British botanist Mordecai Cubitt Cooke, based on specimens sent to him that had been found growing on the walls, ceilings, and floors of a house in Edinburgh that had been partially destroyed by fire. The species was transferred to genus ''Aleuria'' by Ethel Irene McLennan & Halsey in 1936, and later into ''Galactinia'' by Irma J. Gamundi in 1960; both of the binomial name, binomials resulting from these generic transfers are Synonym (taxonomy), synonyms of ''P. domiciliana''. Mordecai Cubitt Cooke
Mordecai Cubitt Cooke (12 July 1825, in Horning, Norfolk – 12 November 1914, in Southsea, Hampshire) was an English botanist and mycologist who was, at various points, a London schoolteacher, a Kew mycologist, curator at the India Museum, journalist and author, .Mary P. Biopress, Bristol, ] Cooke was the elder brother of the art-education reformer Ebenezer Cooke (art education reformer), Ebenezer Cooke (1837–1913) and father of the book illustrator and watercolour painter William Cubitt Cooke (1866–1951). Life Cooke, from a mercantile family in Horning, Norfolk, was apprenticed to a fabric merchant before becoming a clerk in a law firm, but his chief interest was botany. He founded the ''Society of Amateur Botanists'' in 1862 while teaching natural history at Holy Trinity National School, Lambeth, and working as a curator at the India Museum at India Office from 1860.
