Pettstadt
Pettstadt is a community in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg with about 1,900 inhabitants. Geography The community lies in the ''Regierungsbezirk'' of Oberfranken (Upper Franconia), roughly 8 km south of Bamberg where the Rauhe Ebrach empties into the Regnitz. Constituent communities Pettstadt’s main and namesake centre is by far the biggest of its ''Gemeindeteile'' with a population of 1,914. The community furthermore has these outlying centres, each given here with its own population figure: * Eichenhof: 25 * Neuhaus: 24 * Schadlos: 17 The community also has one of the traditional rural land units known in German as ''Gemarkungen'', named Pettstadt, the same name as the main centre (it is traditional for a ''Gemarkung'' to be named after a town or village lying nearby). Bamberg (district)
Bamberg () is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in Bavaria, Germany. It surrounds but does not include the town of Bamberg. The district is bounded by the districts of (from the north and clockwise) Lichtenfels, Bayreuth, Forchheim, Erlangen-Höchstadt, Neustadt (Aisch)-Bad Windsheim, Kitzingen, Schweinfurt and Haßberge. History The history of the district is linked with the history of Bamberg. In 1862 the districts of Bamberg-West and Bamberg-East were established. They were merged in 1929. The present borders were established in 1972, when portions of the adjoining district of Erlangen-Höchstadt were annexed. Geography The district surrounds the town of Bamberg. Frensdorf is a community in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg. Geography The community lies in Upper Franconia south of Bamberg on the lower reaches of the Rauhe Ebrach. Constituent communities Frensdorf's main and namesake centre is the biggest of its ''Ortsteile'' with a population of 1,359, but this makes it only slightly bigger than Reundorf with 1,151. Reaction Ferry
A reaction ferry is a cable ferry that uses the reaction of the current of a river against a fixed tether to propel the vessel across the water. Such ferries operate faster and more effectively in rivers with strong currents. Some reaction ferries operate using an overhead cable suspended from towers anchored on either bank of the river. Others use a floating cable attached to a single anchorage that may be on one bank or mid-channel. Where an overhead cable is used a "traveller" is usually installed on the cable and the ferry is attached to the traveller by a bridle cable. To operate the ferry either the bridle cable is adjusted or a rudder is used, causing the ferry to be angled into the current, and the force of the current moves the ferry across the river.
