Maria Petrou FREng ( el, Μαρία Πέτρου; 17 May 1953 – 15 October 2012) was a Greek-born British scientist who specialised in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine vision. She developed a number of novel image recognition techniques, taught at Surrey University and Imperial College London, and was a prolific author of scientific articles. Kostas Petrou (born 17 April 1959) is a British former professional boxer of Greek Cypriot origin. Petrou was British Welterweight Champion in 1985. Background Petrou spent much of his childhood in Birkenhead where he became a renowned amateur fighter learning his ring craft with Willaston ABC. Sokratis Petrou ( el, Σωκράτης Πέτρου; born 8 May 1979) is a Greek footballer who plays for A.O Loutraki as a midfielder. Career Petrou began playing football as a defensive midfielder for Aiolikos F.C. in the Gamma Ethniki. In 1999, he signed with Skoda Xanthi F.C., where he would make 38 Alpha Ethniki appearances in seven seasons with the club. George Petrou ( el, Γιώργος Πέτρου) is a Greek conductor, pianist and stage-director. Biography George Petrou was born in Greece. He studied at the Athens Conservatoire, the Royal College and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He started an early career as a concert pianist, but quickly turned into conducting developing a parallel interest in historical keyboard instruments and their practices.
