Petros Solomon
Petros Solomon (born 1951; also known as Wed'Solomon, Son of Solomon) is an Eritrean politician. He was an Eritrean People's Liberation Front commander during the Eritrean War of Independence, and following independence he served in several positions in the Cabinet, including Minister of Defense and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He has been in prison, held incommunicado in an undisclosed location, since September 18, 2001 for opposing the rule of Eritrean president Isaias Afewerki. Amnesty International has named him a prisoner of conscience. His wife Aster Yohannes, who was also a freedom fighter and member of EPLF, was detained by security personnel at Asmara International Airport in the capital Asmara on December 11, 2003, when she returned after a three-year period of study at the University of Phoenix to unite with her children. Isaias Afwerki ( ti, ኢሳይያስ ኣፍወርቂ, ; born 2 February 1946) is an Eritrean politician and partisan who has been the president of Eritrea since shortly after he led the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF) to victory in May 1991, ending the 30-year-old war for independence from Ethiopia. Tesfai "Gomorra" Gebreab
Tesfaye Gebreab (ተስፋዬ ገብረኣብ, 28 August 1968 – 24 December 2021) was an Ethiopian-born Eritrean writer and literary publisher. He was best known as a well-renowned Eritrean journalist and editor in the Ethiopian printed press. In Eritrea, however, amongst his fellow Eritrean citizens, he was mainly known for his books and his attachment to the Oromo ethnic group. His book, "Ye burka zimita" was a book that narrated history of Oromo resistance history and future hopes. Because of his contributions to Oromo literature, he was given an honorary name 'Gadaa'. Gebreab worked as a journalist before becoming a full time writer. He penned eight books, including historical novels, true stories, short stories, and memoirs. One of his later books, 'Ye Nurebi Mahder', 'Nurenebi File', a hundred year long story of Eritrea and Ethiopia, received wide scale recognition locally and regionally. Gebreab wrote in Amharic. G-15 (Eritrea)
G-15 is a name given to a group in Eritrea that opposes the policy of President Isaias Afewerki postponing elections and the failure in implementing the constitution. The membership of this group consists of former members of the President's ruling People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ) which has ruled the country since its independence in 1993. In May 2001 the group issued an open letter raising criticism against Isayas Afeworki's actions calling them "illegal and unconstitutional." Detentions and exile , of the 15 members of the group, 11 were imprisoned, three were living in the United States and one, Muhammad Berhan Belata, had left the group and rejoined the government. ''Awate'' or awate.com is a United States based Eritrean news website. Creation ''Awate'' was created by Saleh Gadi as an Eritrean news website, in September 2000, several years after the 1997 creation of ''Asmarino'', another Eritrean diaspora news website. Saleh lived in Kuwait for several years through to 2001, and published reports critical of the Eritrean government's decision to attack Ethiopia, which started the Eritrean–Ethiopian War. Saleh's passport was cancelled and he received political asylum in the United States (US). Barentu () is a town in north-western Eritrea, lying south of Agordat, and is the capital of Gash-Barka Region. The town is integrated with different types of tribes: Kunama, Nara, Tigre and Tigrinya being the most dominant. Nakfa, , is a town in the Northern Red Sea region of Eritrea. It is also the name of a sub region of Eritrea. History Early history The Nakfa area has been inhabited since ancient times and became an administrative and commercial centre in the 1890s when the Italian colonial government established a post there and grew steadily. In the 1960s, following the incorporation of Eritrea into Ethiopia, the construction of a police post and Mosque in the town was funded by the government of Emperor Haile Selasie.
