Petrophile Glauca
''Petrophile glauca'' is a species of flowering plant in the family Proteaceae and is endemic to southwestern Western Australia. It is a shrub with pinnately-divided, flattened, glaucous leaves and more or less spherical heads of hairy yellow to creamy-white flowers. Description ''Petrophile glauca'' is a shrub that typically grows to a height of and has more or less glabrous young branchlets and leaves. The leaves are glaucous, flattened, long on a petiole long, pinnately divided to the midrib, with between seven and twelve pinnae about long. The flowers are arranged in leaf axils or on the ends of branchlets in sessile, more or less spherical heads about in diameter, with overlapping triangular involucral bracts at the base. The flowers are about long, yellow to creamy-white and hairy. Flowering mainly occurs from August to November and the fruit is a nut, fused with others in an oval to spherical head about in diameter. Donald Bruce Foreman
Don Foreman was an Australian botanist who worked on the Monimiaceae and Proteaceae of Australia. He also helped with the editing of selected Flora of Victoria and Flora of Australia Volumes. Career After Foreman graduated from the University of New England in 1969, he took up a position as Forest Botanist at Lae in Papua New Guinea from 1969 to 1975. On his return to Australia he took on a Master of Science at University of New England and then followed on with his PhD. Foreman worked at the National Herbarium of Victoria from 1984 to 1998 in various roles; Botanist, Senior Botanist, Collections Manager and Editor of Muelleria. Foreman did a stint as the Australian Botanical Liaison Officer at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew from September 1996 to August 1997. Lake King
Lake King is a town in the eastern Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, from Perth along State Route 40 between Kelmscott and Ravensthorpe. As of 2016, the town had a population of 95. The 2011 census recorded both the population of the town and the surrounding area for a population of 332. Lake King is named after a nearby lake which in turn was named after the Surveyor General of Western Australia, Henry Sandford King, by Marshall Fox, District Surveyor (Narrogin). The eudicots, Eudicotidae, or eudicotyledons are a clade of flowering plants mainly characterized by having two seed leaves upon germination. The term derives from Dicotyledons. ''Petrophile'' is a genus of evergreen shrubs, in the family Proteaceae. The genus is endemic to Australia. Commonly known as conebushes, they typically have prickly, divided foliage and produce prominently-displayed pink, yellow or cream flowers followed by grey, conical fruits. The Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation for Australia (IBRA) is a biogeographic regionalisation of Australia developed by the Australian government's Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population, and Communities. It was developed for use as a planning tool, for example for the establishment of a national reserve system. The first version of IBRA was developed in 1993–94 and published in 1995. Avon Wheatbelt
The Avon Wheatbelt is a bioregion in Western Australia. It has an area of . It is considered part of the larger Southwest Australia savanna ecoregion. Geography The Avon Wheatbelt bioregion is mostly a gently undulating landscape with low relief. It lies on the Yilgarn Craton, an ancient block of crystalline rock, which was uplifted in the Tertiary and dissected by rivers. East Mount Barren
East Mount Barren is a quartzite peak of the Barren Range in Fitzgerald River National Park. It was sighted and named by explorer Matthew Flinders on 6 January 1802, together with two other peaks in the range, West Mount Barren and Middle Mount Barren. All were named because of their barren appearance. A walking track ascends in height to the summit which has views of the coast from the Doubtful Islands to Mason Point as well as inland.
