Petroglyph Games, Inc. is an American video game developer based in Las Vegas. It was founded in 2003 by Joe Bostic, Michael Legg and Steve Tall, programmers formerly of Westwood Studios, after that company was closed down earlier that year. History Petroglyph was formed on April 1, 2003. On June 25, 2004, the company moved into their own building. On November 16, 2004, Petroglyph announced a project which they were working on, a new ''Star Wars'' real-time strategy (RTS) game called '' Star Wars: Empire at War'', which was released on February 16, 2006. On September 12, 2005, it was announced that they would be working on an original military/sci-fi RTS franchise with Sega. It was being developed in-house by Trion Worlds, combining the aesthetics and tone of the sci-fi genre and put it in a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game. It is presumed cancelled. ''8-Bit Armies'' is a real-time strategy video game developed by Petroglyph Games, which was released on April 22, 2016 for Microsoft Windows and for Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on 21 September 2018. Gameplay ''8-Bit Armies'' is a real time strategy game designed to mirror the look and gameplay of classic RTS games. It features a singleplayer campaign and a multiplayer mode in which players battle each other or the AI in the cooperative game mode. The game takes a very simplistic approach in its gameplay and graphical elements. The graphic features a blocky 8-bit retro-art voxel style with partially destructible terrain. Gray goo (also spelled as grey goo) is a hypothetical global catastrophic scenario involving molecular nanotechnology in which out-of-control self-replicating machines consume all biomass on Earth while building many more of themselves, a scenario that has been called ''ecophagy'' (the literal consumption of the ecosystem). The original idea assumed machines were designed to have this capability, while popularizations have assumed that machines might somehow gain this capability by accident.
