Petre M. Andreevski
Petre Mito Andreevski ( mk, Петре Мито Андреевски) (June 25, 1934 – September 25, 2006) was a famous Macedonian poet, novelist, short story writer and playwright. His most famous novel is the historical novel '' Pirej'' (1980) and his most famous poetry collection is ''Denicija'' (1968). Background Andreevski was born in 1934 in the village of Sloeštica, Demir Hisar. He attended elementary school in his native village, high school in Bitola, studied at the Faculty of Philosophy (now Philology) in Skopje. He worked as an editor with the Macedonian National Television and later was an editor of the periodical ''Razgledi''. He has been a member of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MANU) since May 2000. Andreevski was also a member of the Macedonian Writers’ Association. Socialist Autonomous Province Of Vojvodina
The Socialist Autonomous Province of Vojvodina ( sh, / ) was one of two autonomous provinces within the Socialist Republic of Serbia, in the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The province is the direct predecessor to the modern-day Serbian Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. The province was formally created in 1945 in the aftermath of the World War II in Yugoslavia, as the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina (). In 1968, it was granted a higher level of political autonomy, and the adjective ''Socialist'' was added to its official name. In 1990, after the constitutional reform influenced by what is known as the anti-bureaucratic revolution, its autonomy was reduced to the pre-1968 level, and the term ''Socialist'' was dropped from its name. Pirej (novel)
''Pirej'' ( mk, Пиреј, ) is a novel by Macedonian author Petre M. Andreevski published in 1980. The novel, set during the period of the Balkan Wars, World War I and the period after, tells the story of Jon and Velika, a couple living in a village in southern Macedonia. The novel's title translated to couch grass refers to the perseverance and stoicism of Macedonian people through history. In modern day, ''Pirej'' is considered to be the author's ''magnum opus'' and one of the main and most important works written in Macedonian during the 20th century. It has been translated to Croatian, English, Russian and German. Plot The novel opens at Velika's funeral which is attended by her sixth child Roden Meglenoski. As he does not know much about his parents, he cannot understand why his mother refused to be buried next to his father.
