Petra (Majorca)
Petra is a town and municipality on the Mediterranean island of Majorca, in the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. "Petra" means "rock" in Latin. Petra is the birthplace of St. Junípero Serra (1713-1784), a Franciscan friar who founded the first nine of 21 Spanish missions in California from San Diego to San Francisco. The People's Party ( es, Partido Popular ; known mostly by its acronym, PP ) is a conservative and Christian-democratic political party in Spain. Mallorca
Mallorca, or Majorca, is the largest island in the Balearic Islands, which are part of Spain and located in the Mediterranean. Felanitx
Felanitx or Felanich is a municipality in the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands, located in the southeast of Majorca, 48 kilometres (30 miles) from the capital Palma de Mallorca. The town, dating back to the 13th century, lies near the medieval Sant Salvador Monastery with its Gothic architecture. Culture The St. Agustí convent was founded by Augustinians in the 17th Century. In 1881 the Felanitx town council took over the church and celebrates that event every year. Pere Riutort Mestre
Pere Riutort i Mestre (Petra, Mallorca, 1935-Tàrbena, Marina Baixa, 21 November 2021) was a Majorcan priest, pedagogue, philologue, and liturgist. He was one of the main promoters of the Catalan language in Majorca and also in the Valencian Country, where he had lived since 1971. Biography He was born in Petra (Majorca) in 1935. He was a member of the "blauets de Lluc" (boys' choir) of the monastery of Lluc (1945), and became priest in the Missionaries of the Sacred hearts of Jesus and Mary in Mallorca. He got a degree in pedagogy, classical philology, theology and Catalan philology. From 1967 to 1969 he promoted the Catalan language through many schools from Mallorca. In 1971 he came to live in the Valencian Country. Since 1979 he was teacher of Catalan language in the University College of Castelló de la Plana.
