Peter Wyche (ambassador)
Sir Peter Wyche PC ( – 7 October 1643) was a London merchant and English Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire from 1627–1641. Early life Sir Peter was the sixth son of Richard Wyche (1554–1621), a merchant, and his wife Elizabeth ( Saltonstall) Wyche (1556–1626), daughter of Sir Richard Saltonstall, Lord Mayor of London. His brother, Nathaniel Wyche, was a merchant and president of the East India Company. His paternal grandparents were Margaret ( Haughton) Wyche and Richard Wyche, a descendant of the fifteenth century Lord Mayor of London, Henry Wyche. Career He was knighted by King Charles I on 16 December 1626, having received instructions from the King on 18 November, after his personal nomination. Ambassador arrived at Constantinople on 10 April 1628, remained at that post until he returned to England in May 1639. Sir Peter secured a reduction of duty on English cloth. Charles I Of England
Charles I (19 November 1600 – 30 January 1649) was King of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 27 March 1625 until Execution of Charles I, his execution in 1649. He was born into the House of Stuart as the second son of King James VI of Scotland, but after his father inherited the English throne in 1603, he moved to England, where he spent much of the rest of his life. Bolles Baronets
There have been two baronetcies created people named Bolles, one in the Baronetage of England and one in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia. The Bolles Baronetcy, of Scampton in the County of Lincolnshire, was a title in the Baronetage of England. It was created on 24 July 1628 for John Bolles, son of Sir George Bolles, Lord Mayor of London and High Sheriff of Lincolnshire in 1627. The second Baronet was Member of Parliament for Lincoln from 1661 to 1663. The fourth Baronet followed his example from 1690 to 1702. The title became extinct on the latter's death in 1714. The Bolles later Jopson Baronetcy, of Osberton in the County of Nottingham, was a title in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia. It was created on 19 December 1635 for Mary Bolles, born Mary Wytham she married firstly Thomas Jopson, of Cudworth in the County of York, and secondly as his second wife Thomas Bolles, of Osberton who died in 1635. Peter Wyche (diplomat)
Sir Peter Wyche (1628 – c. 1699) was an English diplomat and translator. He was one of the sons of Sir Peter Wyche and brother of Sir Cyril Wyche. He was educated at Exeter College, Oxford (matriculated 1643), Queens' College, Cambridge (BA 1645) and Trinity Hall, Cambridge (MA 1648) and was admitted to the Inner Temple in 1649. He was knighted in 1660. In May 1663 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. He was English Ambassador to Russia in 1669 and then immediately after to Poland in 1669–1670.Gary M. English Civil War
The English Civil War (1642–1651) was a series of civil wars and political machinations between Parliamentarians (" Roundheads") and Royalists led by Charles I ("Cavaliers"), mainly over the manner of England's governance and issues of religious freedom. Sir Cyril Wyche, 1st Baronet ( – 1756) was an English diplomat who served as Envoy Extraordinary to Hamburg Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Russia. Early life He was the only son and heir of Bethesda ( Savage) Wyche and John Wyche of Hockwold cum Wilton, Envoy Extraordinary at Hamburg and a daughter Sophia who married Dr Thomas Thomas, Rector of Peterborough.
