Peter Sunman
Peter Sunman is an Australian clarinetist, formerly the acting principal clarinetist of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) between 1978 and 1990. He is a state examiner for the Western Australian branch of the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB). He was the senior music teacher at Guildford Grammar School in Perth, Western Australia. until early 2012, when he went into semi-retirement. Impressively, he has also been the Director of Music in Schools in Queensland (Trinity Anglican School, Cairns) and the United Kingdom (Godonstoun School, Scotland). Saxophone
The saxophone (often referred to colloquially as the sax) is a type of single-reed woodwind instrument with a conical body, usually made of brass. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. West Australian Symphony Orchestra
The West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) is an Australian symphony orchestra based in Perth, Western Australia. Its principal concert venue is the Perth Concert Hall. WASO also gives concerts at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. , WASO has a roster of 79 full-time musicians and presents over 170 performances per annum throughout the state. Australian Music Examinations Board
The Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) is a federated, privately funded corporation which provides a program of examinations for music, speech and drama in Australia. The organisation had its beginnings at the Universities of Melbourne and Adelaide in 1887 and later became a national body in 1918. It now has six state offices as well as a Federal Office in Melbourne. The Federal Board consists of representatives of educational institutions that are signatories to the AMEB constitution. ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards
The ABC Young Performers Awards is a classical music competition for young people that ran annually from 1944 to 2015, and again from 2017. It is generally considered the most prestigious Australian classical music competition not restricted to a single instrument. It was conducted by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in conjunction with Symphony Australia (a trading name of Symphony Services Australia Limited, a non-profit arts organisation that operates both domestically and internationally). In December 2015 it was announced that the competition would be discontinued with immediate effect, as Symphony Australia could no longer support it.
