Peter Snodgrass
Peter Snodgrass (29 September 1817 – 25 November 1867) was a pastoralist and politician in colonial Victoria, a member of the Victorian Legislative Council, and later, of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. Snodgrass was born in Portugal and arrived at Sydney, New South Wales, with his parents Lieutenant-Colonel Kenneth Snodgrass (later Lieutenant-Governor of New South Wales) and Janet, ''née'' Wright, in December 1828. In 1838, aged 20, Peter Snodgrass travelled over 600 kilometres south from New South Wales as an overland pioneer to the Port Phillip District, becoming a successful pastoralist in what became the state of Victoria. On New Year's Day 1840, Snodgrass was involved in a duel with a fellow pastoralist, William Ryrie, which ended farcically after Snodgrass accidentally shot himself in the toe. Sir William Clarke, 1st Baronet
Sir William John Clarke, 1st Baronet (31 March 1831 – 15 May 1897), was an Australian businessman and philanthropist in the Colony of Victoria. He was raised to the baronetage in 1882, the first Victorian to be granted a hereditary honour. Clarke was born in Van Diemen's Land, the son of the pastoralist William John Turner Clarke. He arrived in the Port Phillip District (the future Victoria) in 1850, where he managed many of his father's properties and acquired some of his own. Upon his father's death in 1874, he became the largest landowner in the colony. Clarke was made a baronet for his work as the head of the Melbourne International Exhibition, which brought Australia to international attention. Thomas McCombie
Thomas McCombie (1819 – 2 October 1869) was a journalist, historian, novelist, merchant and politician in colonial Victoria, a member of the Victorian Legislative Council, and later, the Victorian Legislative Assembly. Biography McCombie was born in Tillyfour, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, the son of Charles McCombie and his wife Anne, ''née'' Black. McCombie arrived at Melbourne (then in the Port Phillip District of New South Wales) in April 1841. 1845 he was a member of the committee appointed at a public meeting held in Melbourne on 28 September to frame a petition to the Imperial Parliament in opposition to the proposal of New South Wales to pledge the credit of Port Phillip for an immigration loan for her own benefit. The electoral district of Gippsland South (initially known as South Gippsland) is a Lower House electoral district of the Victorian Parliament. It is located within the Eastern Victoria Region of the Legislative Council. Gippsland South extends along the state's coast from Venus Bay to Loch Sport and includes the country Victorian towns of Foster, Korumburra, Leongatha, Mirboo North, Port Albert, Port Welshpool, Rosedale, Sale and Yarram. The electoral district of Anglesey was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. The district of Anglesey was one of the initial districts of the first Victorian Legislative Assembly, 1856. Its area was defined in the Victoria Constitution Act of 1855 as containing the County of Anglesey and part of the County of Dalhousie, excepting the area included in the electoral districts of Kyneton Boroughs and Kilmore and the Borough of Seymour.
