Peter Paul Busuttil
Peter Paul Busuttil (or Pietru Pawl Busuttil in Maltese) (1943 – 28 June 2017) was a Mayor of Hal Safi, Malta Malta ( , , ), officially the Republic of Malta ( mt, Repubblika ta' Malta ), is an island country in the Mediterranean Sea. It consists of an archipelago, between Italy and Libya, and is often considered a part of Southern Europe. It lies .... He died on 28 June 2017 at the age of 74. In 1986, Busuttil was accused of the murder of Raymond Caruana, a Nationalist activist after shots were fired towards the Nationalist Club of Gudja. It later transpired that Busuttil was framed by the Maltese police. He was the first ever mayor of Safi and remained so for 18 years until recently when the other party won over the council. Safi, Malta
Safi ( mt, Ħal Safi) is a village in the Southern Region, Malta, Southern Region of Malta, bordering Żurrieq and Kirkop. It has a population of 2,126 people as of March 2014. The formation of the village, as known today, goes back Ta' Ġawhar Tower, to the Punic-Roman period. The village of Ħal Safi is surrounded by four other major villages. Farmers and peasants used to interact on their way back home from work. After a niche was erected, people began to settle, a new village started to form and expanded over the years. In 1417, the village was already recorded as being named Ħal Safi. According to 1419 records of the ''Standing Army'' (id-Dejma), counting between eighty and ninety people, were considered as village residents. The job occupations of the period were based on primary economy, mainly raising animal and agriculture. The origin of the village's name is uncertain. Raymond Caruana
Raymond Caruana (9 May 1960 – 5 December 1986) was a Maltese political activist affiliated with the Nationalist Party (PN). Caruana was murdered in a drive-by shooting at a PN club in Gudja. Murder While Caruana was at the PN club in Gudja, Malta, a car drove past the club firing several shots. One bullet hit him in the throat, killing him. Peter Paul Busuttil was accused of the murder; however, in the Maltese Law Courts, it later transpired that Busuttil had been the victim of a frame-up by the Labour Party with the aid of the police. The case is still unsolved to the present days.
