Peter Lloyd (commentator)
Peter Lloyd (born 16 November 1920; died before 23 September 1976) was a British television sports commentator, who specialised in football commentaries. He is notable for having given, alongside former England captain Billy Wright, the first ever live television commentary on an English Football League match, when the second half of Blackpool versus Bolton Wanderers was shown by ITV on 10 September 1960. Lloyd had previously worked for BBC Television, providing live commentary on various football games from 1948 until 1955. This included being the co-commentator on the FA Cup Final in both 1949 and 1950, and on coverage of England's matches against Scotland and Italy in April and November 1949, all alongside the BBC's main television football commentator of the time Jimmy Jewell. The ''Daily Herald'' was a History of British newspapers, British daily newspaper, published in London from 1912 to 1964 (although it was weekly during the First World War). It was published in the interest of the labour movement and supported the Labour Party (UK), Labour Party. The 1950 FA Cup Final was the 69th final of the FA Cup. It took place on 29 April 1950 at Wembley Stadium and was contested between Arsenal and Liverpool. Arsenal won the match 2–0 to win the FA Cup for the third time, with both goals scored by Reg Lewis. The Arsenal team also featured cricketer Denis Compton, who played alongside his brother Leslie. Liverpool dropped future manager Bob Paisley for the match, even though he had scored against Merseyside rivals Everton in the semi-final. The ''Coventry Telegraph'' is a local English tabloid newspaper. It was founded as ''The Midland Daily Telegraph'' in 1891 by William Isaac Iliffe, and was Coventry's first daily newspaper. Sold for half a penny, it was a four-page broadsheet newspaper. It changed its name to the ''Coventry Evening Telegraph'' on 17 November 1941. On 2 October 2006, the ''Telegraph'' simply became the ''Coventry Telegraph'', reflecting its switch to a morning publication. The newspaper became a part of the then Mirror Group (prior to its merger with Trinity to become Trinity Mirror), in 1997. 1958 FIFA World Cup
The 1958 FIFA World Cup was the sixth FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams, and was played in Sweden from 8 to 29 June 1958. It was the first FIFA World Cup to be played in a Nordic country. Brazil beat Sweden 5–2 in the final in the Stockholm suburb of Solna to claim their first title. The tournament also marked the arrival of a then 17-year-old Pelé on the world stage. This was the first appearance of Wales at the FIFA World Cup and they would not qualify for another until 64 years later. There were also debut appearances for Northern Ireland and the Soviet Union. Jimmy Jewell (association Football)
Arthur James Jewell (1898–1952), also known as A. J. Jewell, was an English association football manager and referee who during his career coached Norwich City in 1939. Jewell was born in West Hampstead, London in 1898. During the First World War, he served in the Royal Naval Air Service and became one of the first pilots of the Royal Air Force in 1918. He refereed in the 1938 FA Cup Final as well as seventeen international matches, including a game between Austria and Egypt in the football tournament at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. During the Second World War, he served as an RAF Physical Fitness Officer.
