Peter L. Rypdal
Peter Larsson Rypdal (10 February 1909 – 9 January 1988) was a Norwegian fiddler and famous traditional folk music composer. Rypdal was born and died at Tresfjord in Møre og Romsdal, Norway. Of the many pieces he composed, two of his wedding marches are still used widely in Norway. In addition to folk music, he had a great interest in classical music, and this interest he shared with his friend Henry Vike (1921–2013), to whom he dedicated the wedding march "A Summer Wedding". Along with musically interested friends he was involved in forming a separate Symphony Orchestra of Tresfjord and Vestnes (1949–64). He already had a string quartet going for many years, which was a popular entertainment performances at many events, and was also a founding member of "Romsdal spelemannslag" (1936). Tresfjord
Tresfjord is former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1899 until its dissolution in 1964. It encompassed about in the southern part of the present-day Vestnes Municipality. The municipality included the Skorgedalen valley and the area surrounding both sides of the southern half of the Tresfjorden. The village of Tresfjord was the administrative centre of the municipality, and it was the location of Tresfjord Church, the main church for the municipality. History The municipality of ''Sylte'' was established on 1 January 1899 when it was separated from Vestnes Municipality. The initial population was 1,408. The name was changed to ''Tresfjord'' on 28 April 1922. During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee. Hardingfele
A Hardanger fiddle ( no, hardingfele) is a traditional stringed instrument considered to be the national instrument of Norway. In modern designs, this type of fiddle is very similar to the violin, though with eight or nine strings (rather than four as on a standard violin) and thinner wood. The F-holes of the Hardanger fiddle are unique, oftentimes with a more “sunken” appearance, and generally straighter edges (unlike the frilly, swirly F-holes of a violin). Four of the strings are strung and played like a violin, while the rest, named understrings or sympathetic strings, resonate under the influence of the other four. These extra strings are tuned and secured with extra pegs at the top of the scroll, effectively doubling the length of a Hardingfele scroll when compared to a violin.
