Peter Kwasi Sarpong (born 6 February 1933) is the former Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Kumasi The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi ( la, Kumasien(sis)) is the Metropolitan See for the Ecclesiastical province of Kumasi in Ghana. History * 1932.02.02: Established as Apostolic Vicariate of Kumasi from the Apostolic Vicariate of Gold Coas .... He was born in Offinso, Ashanti. He was ordained a priest on December 11, 1959, and incardinated into the clergy of the diocese of Kumasi. Pope Paul VI appointed him Bishop of Kumasi on November 20, 1969. The Archbishop of Cape Coast, John Kodwo Amissah, consecrated him bishop on March 8 of the following year; co-consecrators were Joseph Amihere Essuah, Bishop of Sekondi-Takoradi and Peter Poreku Dery, Bishop of Wa. Offinso
Offinso, is a town in the Offinso Municipality in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The town is about fifteen minutes drive from Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region; due to Offinso's proximity to Kumasi, many of the Offinso natives have relocated to Kumasi. The indigenous people are Asante (Asantefoɔ) thus the dominance of Asante Culture in the town. Offinso is the anglicised version of 'ɔfenso'. The town was named after the River Ofe (ɔfe in Asante) which serves as the boundary for the Offinso South Municipality and Ahenkro, a town in the Afigya Sekyere District also in Ashanti Region. History and population The old Offinso District was divided into Offinso South Municipal and Offinso North District with their capitals at New Offinso and Akomadan respectively.
