Pete Kelly (ice Hockey)
Peter Cameron Kelly (May 22, 1913 – March 22, 2004) was a Canadian ice hockey right winger who played for several NHL teams. Career Kelly played seven seasons in the National Hockey League for the St. Louis Eagles, Detroit Red Wings, New York Americans and Brooklyn Americans. He won the Stanley Cup twice in his career, with the Detroit Red Wings in 1936 and 1937. After leaving the NHL in 1942 he continue to play senior hockey for several years, finally retiring in 1952. He was the last surviving former player of the St. Louis Eagles, a team that played just one season in the NHL (1934-35) after relocating from Ottawa. The Leghs of Lyme were a gentry family seated at Lyme Park in Cheshire, England, from 1398 until 1946, when the stately home and its surrounding parkland were donated by the 3rd Lord Newton to The National Trust. Since the Middle Ages various spellings of this ancient surname have been used : Legh, a Lee, Leghe, Leigh and Leyghe; there were also variations on Peter, ''eg.'' Piers and Peers, the family's most oft-used given name. The first Sir Piers Legh, of Lyme, was knighted in 1397 and assumed as a coat of arms those of his mother, Matilda de Norley, in lieu of his ancient patrilineal Leigh arms. For ease of distinguishing between the earlier generations, it became customary to append a Roman numeral to the various Leghs' names; in this case the numbering system is as used in ''The National Trust Handbook'' for Lyme Park. Peter Kelly (1837 – 1 April 1910) was an Irish piper. Kelly was born in the town of Galway but blinded in infancy. When old enough, his parents saw to it that he was taught the pipes by Martin O'Reilly as a means of ensuing his welfare. When aged about thirty he moved to Glasgow with fiddler John Crockwell, where he married and had nine children. He was survived upon his death by his widow and three children. O'Neill said of him: "This ideal old minstrel was a well-known figure for many years in the vicinity of the Jamaica and Albert bridges, and opposite the Queen Street Station, but instead of sitting down while playing he stood upright, resting his right leg above the knee on a short crotched stick so as to manipulate his instrument successfully. Peter Thomas Kelly (born 17 June 1950) is an Irish lawyer who held various judicial roles between 1996 and 2020. He began his career working in the civil service, before becoming a successful barrister. He was first appointed a Judge of the High Court in 1996, having an instrumental role in the establishment of the Commercial Court division of the court in 2004. He was one of the first judges appointed to a new Court of Appeal when it was established in 2014. He returned to the High Court in 2015 on becoming the President of the High Court, a role which he held until retiring in 2020. He was an ''ex officio'' member of the Supreme Court of Ireland while President of the High Court. Early career Kelly was born in Dublin in 1950 and attended O'Connell School. Peter Gene Kelly (born June 3, 1956 in Fairbanks, Alaska) is an American politician who served as a member of the Alaska Senate. He also served as President of the Alaska State Senate from 2017 to 2019. Kelly previously served in the Alaska Legislature in the Alaska House of Representatives and Senate from 1995 until 2003. He was defeated for re-election in 2018, losing to state representative Scott Kawasaki. Peter Kelly (1847 – 7 April 1908) was president of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in the late 1880s. Kelly was a native of Killeenadeema, Loughrea. He and a number of other men from the area - William J. Duffy, John P. McCarthy, John Sweeney, Loughrea; Michael Glennon, Kilchreest - asked Bishop Patrick Duggan to become the patron of the nascent GAA. Duggan declined citing his poor health, suggesting instead Archbishop Thomas Croke of Cashel. Kelly attended the foundation of the association at Thurles in November 1884. He served as umpire during the Loughrea hurling tournament of 1887, which was attended by over three thousand people.
