Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Peter Robin Harding, (2 December 1933 – 19 August 2021) was a Royal Air Force officer who served as a bomber pilot in the 1950s, a helicopter squadron commander in the 1960s and a station commander in the 1970s. He became Chief of the Air Staff in 1988 and served in that role during the Gulf War in 1991. He became Chief of the Defence Staff in December 1992 but resigned after his affair with Lady (Bienvenida) Buck, the wife of Conservative MP Antony Buck, became public. Early life and education Harding was born on 2 December 1933 in Lambeth, London, to Elizabeth (née Clear) and Peter Harding. Air Vice Marshal Peter John Harding, (1 June 1940 – 27 December 2013) was a senior Royal Air Force officer who served as Defence Services Secretary from 1994 to 1998. RAF career Educated at Solihull School, Harding joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1960.'' Following this he was part of the staff at HQ Air Support Command working on Project Trenchard. Peter Harding (11 May 1919 – 24 January 2006) was an RAF reconnaissance pilot, World War II Prisoner of War and participant in The Great Escape from Stalag Luft III, Peter Harding was a significant figure in the student life of the Royal School of Mines from 1946 until his death on 24 January 2006 at the age of 86. He conveyed historically useful information concerning the liberation of Allied POWs from Nazi camps at the end of World War II. Peter Harding was born on 11 May 1919 and was schooled at Dulwich College. In 1939 he went up to Royal School of Mines, (a constituent of Imperial College), to study Metallurgy. He moved to Swansea when the department was evacuated in 1939 to avoid the threat of bombing. He joined the University of London Air Squadron in 1939, with a view to learning to fly combat aircraft. Peter Harding (climber)
Peter Reginald James Harding (30 December 1924 – 24 October 2007) was a British rock climber who was prominent in the sport during the period following World War II. Climbing career Harding was born in Nottingham but raised in the East Midlands and took his first job as an apprentice as the Rolls-Royce factory in Derby. He was inspired to climb during a cycling holiday in Snowdonia in late 1943, and the following January he bought a cotton rope and began to visit the crags of the nearby Peak District with his girlfriend and climbing partner Veronica Lee. By the following summer, Harding was one of the leading climbers in the Peak District, and was beginning to make first ascents of his own, including many routes now regarded as mid-grade classics. The first of these was ''Promontory Traverse'' at Black Rocks (modern grade E1 5b) which crosses a large overhanging prow.
