Peter Epstein
Peter Coleman Epstein (born January 18, 1967) is an American jazz saxophonist. Biography Epstein learned clarinet as a youth from his father, Ed Epstein, who played saxophone, but picked up his father's instrument in his teens, playing in high school ensembles."Peter Epstein". While attending the California Institute of the Arts, Epstein studied improvisation and composition with bassist Charlie Haden, flautist James Newton, and clarinetist John Carter, concurrently exploring West African music and dance, North and South Indian classical music and Balkan folk music. He graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with a degree in music in 1992, then moved to Brooklyn, New York and has since appeared on more than 50 recordings and toured with Ralph Alessi, Michael Cain, Scott Colley, Jerry Granelli, Carola Grey, Bobby Previte, Brad Shepik, and Marcelo Zarvos. David Tronzo
David Tronzo (born 1957) is an American guitarist, best known for his innovation of pairing the techniques of electric slide guitar with the genres of bebop, modern jazz, rock, downtown music, and experimental music. He has recorded with former David Bowie guitarist Reeves Gabrels, Wayne Horvitz, David Sanborn, and The Lounge Lizards. Biography David Tronzo was born in 1957 in Rochester, New York. He was drawn to music at age eleven and decided on guitar by age thirteen and taught himself. By age fifteen he was playing gigs. "I was playing five nights a week, though I really just had three good notes and five good chords." He credits rock music as an early influence. He lived in New York City from 1979 to 2002. As Visiting Artist at Berlin's Hochschule der Künste (HdK), his technique on the slide guitar was documented in two doctoral theses in Germany, in 1995 and 2001. Nu Shooz
Nu Shooz is an American R&B group fronted by husband-and-wife team of John Smith and Valerie Day, based in Portland, Oregon, United States. Nu Shooz released four albums in the U.S. during the 1980s. Their third album, '' Poolside'', brought the group's sound to a wider audience. Career Nu Shooz formed in 1979 in a lineup that originally featured 12 members. This incarnation of the group released its debut album, ''Can't Turn It Off'', in 1982. Although the album saw limited success, the band continued on, paring its lineup down to seven members over the next several years. Nu Shooz originally released the single " I Can't Wait" in Portland in April 1985 on Poolside Records. The original session occurred at Cascade Recording in Portland in the fall of 1984 and was also featured on the band's sparsely distributed second album, ''Tha's Right'', in 1985.
