Peter Carey (Australian Rules Footballer)
Peter Gareth Carey (born 27 January 1954) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Glenelg Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) from 1971 to 1988. Nicknamed "Super" and regarded as surprisingly agile for a player of his considerable size and a strong overhead mark, Carey began his career playing mainly as a forward, forming a memorable partnership with full-forward Fred Phillis, before moving into the ruck for the remainder of his career. He is the current SANFL, South Australian elite football and Glenelg games record holder, and as of 2022, is the only SANFL or South Australian elite football player to have played 400 games or more. Peter Richard Carey (born 14 April 1933 in Barking, Essex, England), is an English footballer who played as a Left back in the Football League for Leyton Orient, Queens Park Rangers, Colchester United and Aldershot making a total of 106 appearances scoring 3 goals. After his playing career Carey was a manager of several non-league teams Playing Career Carey was an amateur player with Barking in the Isthmian League before he began playing with Leyton Orient of Football League Second Division in 1956, appearing in two first team games in the 1956–57 season. In October 1956 he played in an Essex FA representative team. He signed as a professional player with "Orient" during October 1957 and made 24 appearances in the 1957–58 season. Peter Carey (historian)
Peter Carey (born 30 April 1948 in Rangoon) is a British historian and author who specialises in the modern history of Indonesia, Java in particular, and has also written on East Timor and Myanmar. He was the Laithwaite fellow of Modern History at Trinity College, Oxford, from 1979 to 2008. His major early work concentrated on the history of Diponegoro, the British in Java, 1811–16 and the Java War (1825–30), on which he has published extensively. His biography of Diponegoro, ''The Power of Prophecy'', appeared in 2007, and a succinct version, ''Destiny; The Life of Prince Diponegoro of Yogyakarta, 1785–1855'', was published in 2014. Peter Carey (novelist)
Peter Philip Carey AO (born 7 May 1943) is an Australian novelist. Carey has won the Miles Franklin Award three times and is frequently named as Australia's next contender for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Carey is one of only five writers to have won the Booker Prize twice—the others being J. G. Farrell, J. M. Coetzee, Hilary Mantel and Margaret Atwood. Carey won his first Booker Prize in 1988 for ''Oscar and Lucinda'', and won for the second time in 2001 with ''True History of the Kelly Gang''. In May 2008 he was nominated for the Best of the Booker Prize. Peter Carey (umpire)
Peter Carey is a former Australian rules football umpire in the Australian Football League. Career Throughout his career at VFL/AFL level, Carey umpired 307 senior games. He was named the All-Australian umpire in 1992 and umpired four VFL/AFL grand finals, as well as a VFA grand final. Carey achieved lasting notoriety after taking a mark while umpiring a match. In his 299th AFL match, between Fremantle and St Kilda at Subiaco Oval in 1999, Fremantle's Adrian Fletcher kicked the ball from the wing towards the centre of the oval directly at Carey. Rather than move out of the way, Carey proceeded to take the mark on his chest as if he were the intended recipient of the kick. He immediately stopped the game and called for a ball-up to the general consternation and laughter of the players around him.
