Patrick Campbell (1684–1751)
Lieutenant-General Patrick Campbell ( – 18 February 1751), of South Hall, Argyll, also known as Peter Campbell, was a British Army officer, and Scottish Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1722 and 1741. Early life Campbell was the second son of Duncan Campbell of Whitestone, Kintyre in Argyll. His mother Barbara was a daughter of Hector McAlester of Loup, Argyll. He was probably educated at Glasgow in 1690. He was an officer in Dutch service from about 1704 to 1708 and became major in 4th (Scots) Horse Guards in 1711, and a lieutenant colonel in 1712. He was appointed gentleman of the buttery in 1721 and retained the post for the rest of his life. Career Campbell's family were supporters of the 2nd Duke of Argyll, who arranged his unopposed return at the 1722 British general election as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Buteshire. Peter Campbell, also known in Spanish as Pedro Campbell, (1780, Tipperary, Ireland-c.1832 South America), was an Irish naval officer who founded the Uruguayan Navy. Biography Campbell was born in Ireland in 1780. Little is known about Campbell's early years in Ireland, except that he was probably apprenticed as a tanner. He enlisted in the 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot, one of the divisions that in July 1805 sailed for the Cape of Good Hope. In 1806 these troops invaded Buenos Aires under William Carr Beresford during the Anglo-Spanish War. After the British campaigns failed in their attempt and the regiment withdrew, Campbell was one of the soldiers who managed to remain in the River Plate. He joined the patriot ranks as a guerrilla leader, harassing Spanish forces both on land and on the Paraná river. Peter Campbell (Rangers Footballer)
Peter Campbell (late 1850s – January 1883) was a Scottish footballer, who was one of the four founding members of Rangers Football Club. He made 24 Scottish Cup appearances for Rangers and scored 15 goals. Club career Along with fellow founding members Peter McNeil, Moses McNeil and William McBeath, Campbell played in Rangers' first ever match against Callander F.C. at ''Flesher's Haugh'', Glasgow Green in 1872. He continued to play for Rangers until 1879, helping the club to the Scottish Cup finals of 1877 and 1879. Peter Campbell (born 10 November 1950) is an Australian former professional tennis player. He was previously a women's coach at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. A native of Melbourne, Campbell played collegiate tennis for UC Berkeley during the early 1970s. He spent the rest of the decade on the professional tour. George Peter Campbell (May 21, 1960 – January 11, 2023) was an American water polo player. Raised in Irvine, California, and started swimming competitively at the age of nine. The four-time All-American led UC Irvine in scoring three of his four years there and helped the Anteaters win national titles in 1980 and '82. He was NCAA Player of the Year and NCAA tournament MVP in 1982. An Olympic athlete, he won two silver medals for the United States. The first one was at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, and the second in 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. He was first alternate in 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. He played for the U.S. National Water Polo Team from 1980 to 1992. He graduated from UC Irvine. Peter Walter Campbell (17 June 1926 – 21 April 2005) was a gay English Conservative Party libertarian. In 1975, he was founded Conservative Group for Homosexual Equality. Education Peter Campbell was born at Poole, Dorset, England, United Kingdom, on 17 June 1926. Campbell was educated at Bournemouth School and at New College, Oxford, where he read PPE.
