''Peter Buck'' is the debut solo album from Peter Buck. It has received positive critical reception. Recording and promotion The album was initially announced by long-time collaborator Scott McCaughey in an interview with KIRO-FM on March 14, 2012, with an off-hand remark that Buck had been recording with no firm plans for a release. The collaborators spent four days in the studio, recording and mixing. On May 26, 2012, Buck performed with Joseph Arthur, playing the song "10 Million B.C." live and contributing vocals, which he had rarely done in his three decades with R.E.M. An unfinished studio recording of the song was broadcast on WMFU's Diane's Kamikaze Fun Machine by guest DJ Steve Wynn on June 14, 2012. Piano
The piano is a stringed keyboard instrument in which the strings are struck by wooden hammers that are coated with a softer material (modern hammers are covered with dense wool felt; some early pianos used leather). William Frederick Rieflin (September 30, 1960 – March 24, 2020) was an American musician. Rieflin came to prominence in the 1990s mainly for his work as a drummer with groups (particularly in the industrial rock and industrial metal scenes) such as Ministry, the Revolting Cocks, Lard, KMFDM, Pigface, Swans, Chris Connelly, and Nine Inch Nails. He worked regularly with R.E.M. following the retirement of Bill Berry in 1997. He was a member of King Crimson from 2013 until his death in 2020. Career Rieflin was born on September 30, 1960 (some sources say September 29) and began his professional career in his hometown of Seattle. Bass Guitar
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses. Michael Edward Mills (born December 17, 1958) is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, and composer who was a founding member of the alternative rock band R.E.M. Though known primarily as the bass guitarist and backing vocalist of R.E.M., his musical repertoire also includes keyboards and occasional lead vocals. He contributed to a majority of the band's musical compositions and is the only member to have had formal musical training. Lenny Kaye (''né'' Kusikoff; born December 27, 1946) is an American guitarist, composer, and writer who is best known as a member of the Patti Smith Group. Early life Kaye was born to Jewish parents in the Washington Heights area of upper Manhattan, New York, along the Hudson River. His father changed the family name from Kusikoff to Kaye when Lenny was 1 year old. Growing up in Queens and Brooklyn, Kaye originally began playing the accordion, but by the end of the 1950s, had dropped the instrument in favor of collecting records.
