Peter Board (27 March 1858 – 12 February 1945) was an Australian educationist and public servant best known for his advocacy of education reform in New South Wales. Board was born in Wingham, New South Wales, the son of a Scottish immigrant. He studied teaching in Sydney and later became a school inspector in country New South Wales. In 1905 he was appointed under-secretary and director of the Department of Public Instruction, a position he would hold until 1922. Wingham, New South Wales
Wingham is a town in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales, Australia in the Mid-Coast Council area north of Sydney. According to the , Wingham had a population of 5,313. History The first land grant in the area was made at The Bight to George Rowley in 1841. Wingham was chosen as a location for a government settlement because supply boats could not proceed any further up the Manning River and was also located on the road from Raymond Terrace to Port Macquarie. Named after Wingham in Kent, England, Wingham was proclaimed a village in 1844 but allotments were not made until 1854, the same year that Henry Flett laid out Taree as a private settlement. In the meantime, Tinonee had also been established as a government settlement and in 1866 had a population of 100, compared to 90 at Wingham and 150 at Taree. The Sydney Teachers' College was a tertiary education institution that trained school teachers in Sydney, Australia. It existed from 1906 until the end of 1981, when it became the Sydney Institute of Education, a part of the new Sydney College of Advanced Education (Sydney CAE). On 1 January 1990 Sydney Institute of Education was amalgamated with the University of Sydney eventually becoming a part of the then Faculty of Education at the University of Sydney. Peter Board High School (abbreviated as PBHS), known from 1962 to 1985 as North Ryde High School (abbreviated as NRHS), was a government-funded co-educational comprehensive secondary day school, that was located in North Ryde, a northern suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The school opened in 1962 and closed in 1998. History The school was originally established in January 1962 as "North Ryde High School", and it was located on a large site in North Ryde, bounded by Waterloo Road, Wicks Road and Epping Road.
