Peter Askim
Peter Askim is an American composer of modern classical music, conductor, music educator and a double bassist. Background Born in Denmark, to a Norwegian father and an American mother, he grew up in Cumberland, Maine. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna, and holds bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees from Yale University. He also holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Composition from the University of Texas at Austin. He studied composition with Dan Welcher, Donald Grantham, Anthony Davis, Jan Radzynkski, Syd Hodkinson and David Finko. His double bass instructors were George Rubino, Diana Gannett, Donald Palma, Wolfgang Harrer and Ludwig Streicher. Double Bass

Tokyo Symphony Orchestra
The or TSO, was established in 1946 as the Toho Symphony Orchestra (東宝交響楽団). It assumed its present name in 1951. Based in Kawasaki, the TSO performs in numerous concert halls and serves as pit orchestra for some productions at New National Theatre Tokyo, the city's leading opera house. Honolulu Symphony
The Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, formerly known as Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, was founded in 1900. It is the second oldest orchestra in the USA west of the Rocky Mountains. The orchestra now plays at Neal S. Blaisdell Concert Hall and the Hawaii Theatre Center in Honolulu. The orchestra was originally housed in a clubhouse on the slopes of Punchbowl. From 1996 to 2004, the orchestra was under the direction of conductor Samuel Wong. Idyllwild Arts Foundation
Idyllwild Arts Foundation encompasses two institutions in Idyllwild, California for training in the arts: Idyllwild Arts Academy (IAA) and the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program. The institution was formerly known as Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts (ISOMATA). Conductor (music)
Conducting is the art of directing a musical performance, such as an orchestral or choral concert. It has been defined as "the art of directing the simultaneous performance of several players or singers by the use of gesture." The primary duties of the conductor are to interpret the score in a way which reflects the specific indications in that score, set the tempo, ensure correct entries by ensemble members, and "shape" the phrasing where appropriate. Conductors communicate with their musicians primarily through hand gestures, usually with the aid of a baton, and may use other gestures or signals such as eye contact. Ludwig Streicher
Ludwig Streicher (26 June 1920 – 11 March 2003) was a contrabassist from Vienna, Austria. Familiar to many as the former principal bass of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and bass soloist, he is also known as an instructor and as the author of a contrabass textbook. Early life Streicher's love for music (which he called ''Musizieren)'' was influenced by his father. His parents owned an inn located in Ziersdorf, Lower Austria. There, his father led a local brass band. His father gave Streicher his first violin lessons. Career At age 14, he attended Vienna Music Academy, switching to double bass. He studied with students of Franz Simandl, a famous double bass soloist. Streicher graduated in 1940 and spent the next four years serving as principal bass at the Kraków National Theater. Donald Palma
Donald Palma is a prominent classical double bassist, conductor, bass instructor, and educator of ensemble performance. He is a native of New York City, and is a graduate of the Juilliard School. Palma studied with several noted bassists including Frederick Zimmermann, Robert Brennand, Orin O'Brien, and Homer Mensch.
