Peter Turner M.D. (1542–1614) was an English physician, known as a follower of Paracelsus. He also was a Member of Parliament, during the 1580s. Early life He was the son of William Turner the churchman, Marian exile and botanist, and his wife Jane Auder. He was instructed by his father in both a religious and a scientific outlook. After his father's death his mother remarried Richard Cox, Bishop of Ely. He graduated M.A. at St John's College, Cambridge. He then proceeded M.D. at Heidelberg in 1571, where his medical contacts included Thomas Erastus and Sigismund Melanchthon. He was incorporated M.D. at Cambridge in 1575, and on 10 July 1599 at Oxford. Professional associations Turner practised his profession in London, where, on 4 December 1582, he was admitted a licentiate of the College of Physicians. Peter Turner (mathematician)
Peter Turner (1586–1652) was an English mathematician. Life He matriculated at St Mary Hall, Oxford in 1600, and graduated M.A. at Christ Church, Oxford in 1605. He became a Fellow of Merton College, Oxford in 1607. He gave public lectures as professor of geometry at Gresham College, London from 1620 to 1630. He was an ally of William Laud in his time as Chancellor of the University of Oxford, working with Brian Twyne on a revision of the statutes. He held the Savilian Chair of Geometry at the University of Oxford from 1631 to 1649. In 1641 he enlisted in the royalist forces of John Byron, 1st Baron Byron. Taken prisoner in an early skirmish of the First English Civil War, near Stow-on-the-Wold, he was eventually released in 1643 in a prisoner exchange. Peter James "Pete" Turner (born 28 August 1974) is a British musician and songwriter who has been the bassist for the rock band Elbow since the group's formation. Biography Turner grew up in Bury, Manchester as an adopted child of white British parents. He has cited Adam and the Ants as the first band which he "really loved," and also cited Duran Duran and Public Enemy as early favourites. Turner has credited Duran Duran's John Taylor as being his initial inspiration in becoming a bassist. He has also said that Public Enemy's record Fear of a Black Planet is his favourite album. Turner was one of the three embryonic founders of what would later become Elbow, as he had formed a band named RPM with future Elbow members Richard Jupp and Mark Potter. Turner befriended future Elbow frontman Guy Garvey at Bury College and the latter later joined RPM in 1991, triggering a band name change to Mr. Soft, and eventually later on first to just Soft and finally to Elbow in 1997. Donald Peter Turner (May 30, 1934 – September 18, 2017) was an American photographer. In 1986, Turner published his first monograph, ''Pete Turner Photographs'' (Abrams). His second book, ''Pete Turner African Journey'' ( Graphis Inc., 2001), documents Turner's many adventures in Africa, beginning with his trek in 1959 from Cape Town to Cairo with Wally Byam's famous Airstream caravan.
