Peschanaya, Irkutsk Oblast
Peschanaya (russian: Песч́аная) is a village in the Olkhonsky District of Irkutsk region of Russia, a part of the Khuzhirskiy municipal unit. Located in the bay Nurganskaya Guba in the middle part of the western coast of Olkhon Island, in 12 km northeast from the village Kharantsy, Olkhonsky District, Kharantsy. In the late 1930s near the village a correctional labor camp was established for those convicted of hooliganism and larceny. The camp was a part of the GULAG system, the barracks were fenced with barbed wire. The prisoners worked on fishing boats, at the fish factory and a sawmill. References

Peschany Island
Peschany Island (russian: о́стров Песча́ный; 'Sandy Island'), also known as Ostrov Mel, is an unusually-shaped island in the Laptev Sea. Geography Peschany Island consists of a -long elliptical landspit which is broken in its eastern and southeastern side forming three smaller islands. The curved spit encloses a shallow lagoon, making Peschany look like a tropical atoll in the maps. This island is barren and uninhabited. Peschany is located to the east of Bolshoy Begichev Island. The Siberian coast lies to the south. The sea surrounding Peschany Island is covered with pack ice in the winter. There are large polynias forming on the sea in Peschany Island's vicinity. The climate is marked by severe Arctic weather with frequent gales and low temperatures even in the short summer season which lasts barely two months. The island is host to colonies of walruses. Cape Unslicht (russian: Мыс Песчаный, ''Mys Peschanyy'') is a headland in Severnaya Zemlya, Russia. Geography Stretching out northwards NW of the Akhmatov Fjord and east of the mouth of Mikoyan Bay, this headland is the northernmost point of Bolshevik Island. Cape Unslicht is one of the landmarks defining the limits of the Laptev Sea according to the International Hydrographic Organization.
