Peru National Rugby Union Team
The Peru national rugby team, nicknamed ''los Tumis'', is an emerging team in the Americas and a member of the Confederación Sudamericana de Rugby (Consur). The national side is ranked 72nd in the world, as of 16 January 2023. History In 1958 Peru, together with Argentina, Uruguay and Chile participated in the first South American tournament, held in Santiago, Chile. Because there was no IRB-sanctioned rugby union at the time, participation was not officially accepted by Peruvian sport authorities. It would be another 39 years before the Union Peruana de Rugby was formed. In September, 1999 Peru participated in its first official international tournament: the first under-21 South American tournament in Asuncion, Paraguay. Tumi ( ''Quechua'' for 'Knife', ''variants'': 'Tome', 'Tume'), is a generic term encompassing the many kinds of sharp tools utilized in pre- and post-colonial eras of the Central Andes region, Tumis were employed for a diverse set of purposes such as kitchen knives, agricultural tools, warrior or hunting secondary weapons, sacrificial knives, barber implements, pendants, or medical tools. Ecuador National Rugby Union Team
The Ecuador national rugby union team represents Ecuador in international rugby union play. Ecuador recently became a member of the Confederación Sudamericana de Rugby in 2011. They are not affiliated with World Rugby, and will not play qualifiers for the Rugby World Cup until it is. The Ecuadorian Rugby Federation governs the sport of rugby in the country. Ecuador played their first international tournament in December 2012, playing in the 2012 CONSUR C Championship, finishing third out of four teams.
