Peru Davis Cup Team
The Peru national tennis team is the Davis Cup team that represents the nation of Peru. The team is governed by the Federación de Tenis de Peru. They currently compete in the Americas Zone Group II, and their best result was reaching the World Group in 2008 Davis Cup, 2008. History Although in 1959 Peruvian-born Alex Olmedo had won the Davis Cup participating with the United States Davis Cup team, United States team, the first participation by a Peruvian team was in 1968 (a 3-0 loss to Chile). Even though, officially, Peru's participation the Davis Cup had started in 1933; its presentations in the years of 1933, 1934, and 1950 were all walk-over losses. Peru's first victory would come in 1976, when the team defeats Uruguay Davis Cup team, Uruguay at Montevideo, by a margin of 2-3. Américo Venero
Américo Túpac "Tupi" Venero (born 22 February 1972) is a French-born Peruvian former professional tennis player. A left-handed player, Venero represented the Peru Davis Cup team between 1995 and 2000, winning seven singles and five doubles rubbers. He won the deciding fifth rubber in the 1999 American Zone Group II final, over Mexico's Luis Herrera (tennis), Luis Herrera, to give Peru promotion. Venero was the 1990 South American Games singles champion and won a bronze medal at the 1991 Pan American Games, partnering Patrick Baumeler in the men's doubles competition. This was Peru's first ever Pan American Games medal for tennis. His only main draw appearance on the ATP Tour was in doubles at the 1996 Hellmann's Cup in Santiago and he won one ATP Challenger title during his career, which was also in doubles. Darren Cahill
Darren Cahill (born 2 October 1965) is a tennis coach and former professional tennis player from Australia. In addition, Cahill is a tennis analyst for the Grand Slam events on the US sports network ESPN and a coach with the Adidas Player Development Program and at ProTennisCoach.com. Career Player Cahill turned professional in 1984. He won his first tour doubles title in 1985 at the Melbourne Outdoor tournament. In 1987, he won his first top-level singles title at New Haven.
