Perth Theatre Company
Perth Theatre Company was a live theatre company in Perth, Western Australia. History Perth Theatre Company was founded as SWY Theatre Company by graduates from the specialist Theatre Arts course at John Curtin Senior High School in 1983. Between 1983 and 1986, SWY operated out of a disused warehouse in Fremantle before moving to 65 Murray Street, Perth in 1987. In 1994 the Company adopted the name of Perth Theatre Company and found a new home at the Playhouse Theatre. In 1996, Perth Theatre Company became a company limited by guarantee. In 2008, Perth Theatre Company's only Artistic Director, Alan Becher died and Melissa Cantwell was appointed the company's new Artistic Director. In 2016 Perth Theatre Company ceased operations. Live Theatre, formerly Live Theatre Company, is a new writing theatre and company based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. As well as producing and presenting new plays many of which go on to tour nationally and internationally, it seeks out and nurtures creative talent and runs a large education programme for young people. History Originally founded in Tyneside in 1973 by Val McLane, Geoff Gillham and Dave Clark, The company originally toured its work regionally to non-traditional theatre settings, such as community halls and working men's clubs. ''Shopping and Fucking'' (sometimes billed as ''Shopping and F**king'') is a 1996 play by English playwright Mark Ravenhill. It was Ravenhill's first full-length play. It received its first public reading at the Finborough Theatre, London, in 1995. It was performed in 1996 at the Royal Court Upstairs (located temporarily at the Ambassadors Theatre in London's West End), before embarking on a national and international tour, co-produced by Out of Joint and the Royal Court Theatre. When first produced, ''Shopping and Fucking'' received mixed reviews. Some were shocked by the play's sexually violent content, which includes the pseudo-rape of an underage male by other males. The Perth Cultural Centre is an area of central Perth, Western Australia, near the James Street Mall. ''Tender Napalm'' is a 2011 play by Philip Ridley. Ridley's eighth stageplay for adults, it premiered at The Southwark Playhouse, London on 19 April 2011.
