Perth (Scottish English, locally: ; gd, Peairt ) is a city in central Scotland, on the banks of the River Tay. It is the administrative centre of Perth and Kinross council area and the historic county town of Perthshire. It had a population of about 47,430 in 2018. West Perth is an inner suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. Geography Formerly an exclusive enclave for wealthy merchants and politicians, the West Perth suburb is now part of the inner mixed zone, and has predominantly office blocks which have displaced residential buildings. The suburb has a relatively high proportion of miners, consultants, and especially medical specialists as compared with the Perth CBD. Streets such as Colin Street, Ord Street, and Outram Street have a significant percentage of office and high density residential buildings. Dorothy Hewett
Dorothy Coade Hewett (21 May 1923 – 25 August 2002) was an Australian playwright, poet and author, and a romantic feminist icon. In writing and in her life, Hewett was an experimenter. As her circumstances and beliefs changed, she progressed through different literary styles: modernism, socialist realism, expressionism and ''avant garde''. She was a member of the Australian Communist Party in the 1950s and 1960s, which informed her work during that period. In her lifetime she had 22 plays performed, and she published nine collections of poetry, three novels and many other prose works. There have been four anthologies of her poetry. She received many awards and has been frequently included in Australian literature syllabuses at schools and universities. She was regularly interviewed by the media in her later years, and was often embroiled in controversy, even after her death. Jean Elsie Ferguson
Jean Elsie Ferguson (15 July 1909 – 30 January 1979) was an Australian Army nurse who served in World War II and later became matron of a repatriation hospital in Perth. Early life and education Ferguson was born on 15 July 1909 in the Perth suburb of Guildford, the sixth child of John Frederick Geary and Elsie Sarah (née Coppin) Robinson. Ferguson was educated at Perth College, then trained as a nurse at Royal Perth Hospital from 1930 to 1933. Career Ferguson worked in Perth hospitals after graduating and joined the Australian Army Nursing Service Reserve in January 1939. In April 1940 she was appointed staff nurse in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) and was sent to England where she served in the 2nd/3rd Australian General Hospital, Godalming, Surrey. From there she was sent to the Middle East in 1941 and was then sent back to Australia in 1942, to work at Warwick and Toowoomba military hospitals.
