Pershing County
Pershing County is a county in the U.S. state of Nevada. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,650. Its county seat is Lovelock. The county was named after army general John J. Pershing (1860–1948). It was formed from Humboldt County in 1919, and the last county to be established in Nevada. The Black Rock Desert, location for the annual Burning Man event, is partially in the county. The county is listed as Nevada Historical Marker 17. The marker is at the courthouse in Lovelock. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (0.5%) is water. The tallest and most topographically prominent mountain in Pershing County is Star Peak at 9,840 ft (3,000 m). State Route 854 (SR 854) is a state highway (US), state highway in Pershing County, Nevada, Pershing County, Nevada serving the vicinity of Lovelock, Nevada, Lovelock. The route comprised a portion of former Nevada State Route 48, State Route 48. Route description State Route 854 begins northwest of Lovelock at an intersection with Pitt Road/Eagle Picher Mine Road (SR 399 (NV), SR 399). From there, the two-lane highway travels south along Lone Mountain Road for about , passing a local cemetery. The route then turns east and heads through farmlands towards downtown Lovelock. Entering the city limits at Jamestown Road, the road now follows Western Avenue through residential areas. SR 854 passes by the Pershing County Courthouse and then turns northeast on Dartmouth Avenue to terminate at an intersection with Main Street (SR 398 (NV), SR 398) in downtown Lovelock. State Route 401 (SR 401) is a state highway in Pershing County, Nevada. The route, known as Rye Patch Road, serves the Rye Patch State Recreation Area. Route description The western terminus of Rye Patch Road is at a parking lot adjacent to a day use area on the southwestern shore of the Rye Patch Reservoir. From there, SR 401 loops around to head eastward, providing additional campground and recreation area access. The highway follows the southern edge of the reservoir and crosses the Humboldt River on Rye Patch Dam before cutting through mountains and continuing eastward.
